Cam Thomas is a lightning rod for the Nets fanbase. While some view the organization as the culprit in his lack of minutes, others see his ball-dominant style as road block to quality team basketbball.
Whichever the case, there is no denying Cam Thomas has offensive production, and certainly provides a skill-set the Nets desperately need.
With a healthy Ben Simmons at the helm, Adam makes the case that the time is now to put the third year Guard into the starting lineup. His perimeter shooting, attack the basket ability and finishing at the rim are can make the Nets offense a consistent threat.
Adam also looks at what it means to move Spencer Dinwiddie to the second unit, why the question marks around depth furthers support Thomas to thee starting five, and how the organization needs to be committed to the youth of this roster.

Again Cam Thomas role on this team in the long and short term gives us more questions then answers.
Based on the press conference yesterday Ben Simmons will be the starting point guard and Spencer Dinwiddie who was looked at as the potential backup point guard could join the starting rotation as a catch and shoot guard alongside Ben Simmons Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton.
That would mean Brooklyn would need to create a balanced second unit and Cam Thomas could see minutes and potentially work his way up to a sixth man role if he improves on his playmaking and defensive issues….
But Dennis Smith Jr could arguably become the backup point guard with Cam Thomas being a scoring guard for the second unit.
That's the best way to look at how Thomas could have a role on this team.
Now if we are looking at how Cam Thomas can have even more minutes on the court pairing him with Ben Simmons could be a very balanced winning formula.
Arguably Ben Simmons is a better assist passer and defender while Cam Thomas is a very strong scorer yet not the best defender or playmaker. Together Ben Simmons can play elite defense while being an effective point guard and Cam Thomas can focus on being a strong versatile scorer and attacking the rim.
Definitely think this would be the best avenue towards Ben and Cam helping each other overcome their issues while combining their strengths….
One thing that I do have questions about are Dorian Finney Smith and Royce o Neale roles on this team past next season? It seemed at the press conference they were the ones who were least mentioned and depending how Brooklyn does by the trade deadline both of them could find themselves on contending teams for important draft picks to build more towards that eventual big trade move.
But both Royce and Doe are blue collar top players who bring that bulldog defense that will make Brooklyn a strong squad this season and look forward to seeing them each bring that edge to the team….
Wow everyone Dame Lillard is a Buck 😨!
A Giannis and Lillard duo is definitely something no one thought would happen but it has and meanwhile Jhru Holiday and DeAndre Ayton are going to the Portland Trailblazers 😮…
One thing that is now for certain is Brooklyn's Suns draft picks just got a hell of a lot more valuable 🔥….
GO ADAM! but I think your cam is a little scuffed
JV said the minutes will go to the guys who get it done on BOTH ends of the court…offense and defense. I think it’s going to be hard for Cam Thomas to get minutes … we will soon see.
I HIGHLY AGREE!! THIS IS BEST MOVE FOR THE FUTURE.
Ben
Cam T
Mikal
Cam J
Claxton
UNLOCK IT
Absolutely not smh dude still needs to develop especially on defense and decision making. I don’t think the Nets is the place for him at the moment they should move him let him go flourish in Detroit or something
Can we stop with these Cam Thomas delusions?
would cam thomas work at shooting guard? mikal at sf , and cam johnson at pf?
START CT #FreeCT
Yes! With the young gunner as a primary scoring option it will provide adequate rim pressure to free up everyone else. If JV allows him the grace to have inevitable blunders and tunnel vision (think young Kobe Bryant, IM NOT CALLING HIM KOBE lol) he's eventually going to settle into a quiet leadership role and simultaneously open the offense up for pick and roles and also allow Bridges to do his thing more freely. Its all about how JV utilizes him or doesn't. Start the kid, let him play 25-30 mins/game I think it'll do wonders for his development and we may unleash a star in the process. If hes a dud by midseason, so what? its not like we're gunning for a deep run this year anyway
We are getting Herro.. Dinwiddie is coming off the bench.
That picture of Cam Thomas Ben Simmons Spencer Dinwiddie looks 🔥
The second unit w dinwiddie otb will provide stability. Dsj, Spence, royce, dfs Sharpe, make sure Wilson, and clowney get some minutes … we're not expecting the world…im cool with that squad
If Ben Simmons starts then Cam Thomas makes sense
Adam, I feel your love for Cam Thomas and giving him a shot but I’m not sure what you took from the teams press conference and Coach JV’s discussion on cam Thomas that gives you any sort of confidence that he’s giving cam anything but roadblocks to him getting significant playing time.
When asked about Cam Thomas, the coach basically suggested the Cam Thomas needs to play both ends of the floor. So basically, he set the standard for Cam Thomas, that he be a two-way player. That’s all well and good if the coach consistently held that standard for other players which he has not. He religiously kept playing Seth Curry and Joe Harris last year they didn’t play the defense. DFS struggled mightily on offense but he didn’t bench him.
This is the coach, who basically came out publicly admitted that he had a grudge against Ben Simmons, so why should any fan give him the benefit of the doubt that he doesn’t have a grudge against Cam Thomas? Now I’m not one to think that cam Thomas doesn’t have major flaws, he does, but you can’t set the standard, that he hast to be this all-around two-way player to get significant minutes while other players are not held to that standard is disingenuous. In the same sentence where he’s setting the standard for Cam Thomas heaping praise on Dennis Smith, Jr., whose offense game isn’t great.
logic with conviction – as rare as it is refreshing. thanks adam
I don't expect to see any changes in the starting lineup that finished last season. Sean Marks said he wanted to give the core players another shot because he like what he saw in them in the final third of last season. I agree. The continuity will add to the cohesion of the team. In spite of all the positive press about Ben, I'll take a wait and see attitude before I see him as the starting point guard. If he's inserted into the starting lineup, and we bench DFS, to make room for him, it could potentially disrupt the chemistry of the starting lineup. He's not a perimeter scoring threat and that will always be his biggest flaw. I can't visualize Cam Thomas being in the starting lineup. I could see him getting only situation PT off the bench. Some questions wont be answered until after training camp concerning roster construction and others after the preseason is over. I trust JV and his staff to shape the roster into a competitive team a lot more than fans and pod cast platforms. Hearing them talk fantasy is fun, though.
Adam made a lot of good points. But I don't remember JV committing to Ben being the starting point guard and he was noncommittal on anything Cam Thomas.
