@Toronto Raptors

The Raptors’ interest was serious, for example, but Lillard’s disinterest in playing in Toronto remained an obstacle until the end.

That’s the only bit about us.

this is like an entry job requiring 5 years of experience.

to get a superstar you need another superstar lol

“The Raptors’ interest was serious, for example, but Lillard’s disinterest in playing in Toronto remained an obstacle until the end.”

If there was this much reluctantnce from Lillard and his camp (and clearly there was) why pursue something that basically had next to no chance of ever happening?

Edit: And the FO/Masai cultists right on cue with the downvotes lol

  3. absolutkaos

    but…. i dont understand… i was told this was all Masai’s fault.

  4. supernaturalfor

They probably assumed he could be persuaded but obviously not. Doesn’t hurt to try especially if the suggested deal that was floated was accepted.

  5. OGnotAnunoby

He ended up in a better situation tbh so it’s hard to be mad at it. Masai and them tried so it hard for me to be upset curious to see what moves we make now

  6. Keep telling you guys. The superstars like Toronto. But they don’t want to play here. It’s been seen time and time again.

So many of us said all along that he wouldn’t be traded here for this reason alone and that his situation was nowhere near Kawhi’s.

  9. jeaxz74

It’s okay Dame Toronto job market sucks major cojones compared to what’s there in the US market. 🙁

  10. FuManchuDuck

What’s the main reason that super stars don’t want to play in Toronto? Is it tax reasons? Is it because it’s Canada?

For a player, why wouldn’t you want a whole country on your side?

  11. thissiteisbroken

No you don’t understand. This is Masai’s fault.

  12. chrisPjelly

Gonna guess Dame had a say on whether he wanted to play with Giannis or Siakam out of the available best deals. The answer was obvious.

And jfc, this sub sooo black and white on the topic of the FO. On this particular issue, fine, there may or may not be things that were out of their control. BUT that doesn’t detract from the overall frustration a lot of fans/media feel from the lack of action for the last few seasons. And I don’t care about “behind the scenes” or “they made an attempt” bullshit that people here keep peddling out, just like a W is a W, all that matters is the results of the off-season, and the results are that they haven’t done jack shit to move the needle either way. And I know they tried with Dame, but there is more than one way to achieve either result.

  13. Option A: Play with mvp-level Giannis and a ready made contender to compete right now

Option B: Play on a 41 win team that lost an all star and has no clue what direction its going

    Tough choice

  14. Right-Beautiful7631

Im sure Portland was looking at both Raps and Bucks offers and told Dame its one or the other, which one do you want? And cant Blame him for choosing Giannis.

  15. Barnicus53

People in this sub spent 2-3 weeks posting every stupid rumour almost hourly, when in the end it came down to Lillard not wanting to play for Toronto, which should have been obvious to everyone paying even a little bit of attention to the situation.

He wanted to go to a potential contender, and Toronto is nowhere near that. I don’t know why fans can’t just come to grips with reality instead of trying to blame the front office for something they can control.

  16. Winter_Purpose8695

Being in Canada makes Masai/Bobby’s job way harder. Put them anywhere in the US and watch them build out their dream team in a couple of years. Bunch of ungrateful fucks in here don’t know what a real bad front office looks like.

  17. FactorNo7477

I think he chose to get traded to Milwaukee over us because he had a better chance at winning a title with Milwaukee than with us

  18. PriorVariety5744

I’ve only read the headline, but if you had a choice to play with Siakam or Giannis? Who would you choose?

  19. nohowow

Serious question: why would we care what he wants? He’s under contract.

  20. t-earlgrey-hot

People feel like it’s the city. You think if Giannis was here he wouldn’t have agreed to come?

I love pascal but he doesn’t have respect from superstar players in that way. Scottie is an unknown.

  21. phrenicbeat86

LeBatard now saying today that Portland never really engaged Miami throughout the summer, mainly due to spite and never wanted to trade him to Miami.

Yet yesterday he was saying Dame would be a Heat for sure.

Only trust Woj and Shams for news.

  22. Ylissian

Even putting aside the fact that playing with Giannis is better than playing with Siakam, Milwaukees offer might honestly be better than ours.

Those pick swaps are being underrated. Milwaukee could easily be in the lottery in 2028/2030. I don’t even know if Dame will be in the NBA by then.

  23. Kevita24

Masai has had so many “almost” moments in his career, he must lose a lot of sleep at night thinking about all of the things that he almost did

Almost moved up to 13th in the draft to get Giannis but they didn’t want to offer more to get him

Almost traded up to draft Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Almost drafted Desmond Bane but drafted Flynn instead

    Almost traded FVV for value

Almost traded Siakam for a haul before the deadline

Almost traded OG for a haul

Almost made a playoff run after trading his 2024 first-round pick for Jakob

    Almost traded for Dame lol

    I’m sure I missed a few…

  24. mxgicjohnson

Can’t wait to end his career when Barnes and Malachi Flynn knock his out the playoffs for the very last time in 2028. Man, I can’t wait.

  25. Decent_Pack_3064

Bucks team is a lot lot better…..

    Giannis
    Lopez
    Middleton
    Bobby Portis

  26. WobbleKun

so cronin ultimately did dame a solid and let him choose? pop was like nope kawhi you’re deported lol.

  27. LEXX911

Dame isn’t going to move that much of a needle for Milwaukee. People need to stop under valuing Jrue Holiday because Milwaukee just lost one of the best two-way player.

  28. Raptorsthrowaway1

Can’t blame him. Who wouldn’t want to play with Giannis.
