[Weiss] Malcolm Brogdon spent the summer wanting a new start elsewhere but did not want to hold out at training camp, according to team and league sources.

> Rumors began to circulate that Brogdon required surgery on the partially torn elbow tendon that ended his season early, and reports suggested there might have been more injury concerns that could put his long-term health in jeopardy. Because he was planning to simply rehab the elbow and the other areas of concern in his lower body felt relatively fine, according to sources briefed on his recovery plan, Brogdon became increasingly frustrated.

> Following exit meeting discussions, Brogdon was under the impression he was part of the team’s long-term plans, according to team sources. Marcus Smart and Danilo Gallinari, who was sent to Washington in the three-team trade, also were under the impression after their exit meetings that they were a part of the team’s future plans, according to league sources.

> The disconnect with Brogdon was exacerbated when Joe Mazzulla told reporters that White would be the starting point guard following Brown’s contract extension news conference on July 26. Brogdon, who has a strong relationship with White, anticipated the Smart trade would leave the door open for a competition to earn the starting point guard spot.

> The Celtics have opened extension talks with Pritchard but still have a gap to close to reach an agreement, according to sources briefed on the negotiations.

The competition was the 22-23 season, and White was better.

Anyway, unless you’re the franchise player, everybody van be a part of the future long term until they aren’t. Happens everywhere.

Am I crazy or has he now demanded out of all three teams he’s been on? Two of them being contenders.

I mean, that tracks. I can absolutely understand being upset about being included in a trade that fell through, but at the same time that’s the way the league works and it sounds like he was being professional about it

  4. Some players just don’t care about winning

Brogdon wanted out but didn’t wanna miss camp. Heard he had some injuries, but was still frustrated with the team’s plans for him. Celtics tryna keep Pritchard around, but they gotta close that gap first.

I vaguely recall it being reported Indiana had a couple of offers for Brogdon last year and they asked him which he preferred. He choose Boston, based probably on something Stevens told him, and seemed content even when Udoka was suspended and through the first half of the season. It seems from things Grant Williams has said that things changed on the team after Mazzulla was given the permanent head coach position on 2/15. Besides Grants playing time changing significantly after that date no other reporting has indicated what else occurred to so dramatically change the vibes on the team. Whatever it was I imagine it soured Brogdon on the team at the same time. Bill Simmons noted in his pod today that everyone who seemed to clash with Mazzulla had been traded or allowed to leave in restricted free agency but no one has ever spelled out what exactly happened. Even other players like Gabe Vincent have commented that something was fucked up about the vibe in Boston during the playoffs.
