Celtics Sign Free Agent Wenyen Gabriel to Replace Robert Williams



The Celtics signed Wenyen Gabriel, an athletic big man who last played for the Lakers, to a training camp contract to replace Robert Williams when the preseason opens on Monday. Boston is exploring more permanent solutions, and could utilize the Grant Williams TPE to make a trade after dealing Rob for Jrue Holiday on Sunday.     They are the same height, but Rob weighs more, so he probably is stronger than him, and Rob wingspan is 5 inches longer than wenyen. So yeah Rob is better

    I like it because I was really hoping they were not just going to have coronet as the third big. I really like the idea of horford coming off the bench. Have Gabriel start. If it does not need to play 30 minutes a game this season. Save him for the playoffs.

    I like Gabriel. He got buried on a veteran lakers roster. Would like to see him get more playing time this season.

    I like the trade, but he "death lineup" version will be the worst rebounding team of all time. Tatum and Brown have shown stats are above winning, so I don't expect them to improve here. Stevens will need to do what Ainge did in 2008 where he picked up the needed missing pieces in the post trade deadline time.

    love the move but wenyen aint close to being rob. hes nice dont get me wrong, he more of a large wing who can play as a big. but what about REBOUNDS!!

    Crap player let’s be honest. People keep going on about energy, effort and all this BS. Mason Plumlee gives that every night but he still ain’t coming close to Jokic level. Robert Williams III is way better than Gabriel, let’s stop beating around the bush!!!

    Wenyan is pretty skinny and he's certainly not a replacement for Time Lord against legit centers but he's a handy small-ball second unit center in the right matchups.
