[Neubeck] Embiid on long-term commitment: “If every year is going to be the same thing, that doesn’t put you closer to winning a championship. That gets frustrating. But I also believe it doesn’t matter who’s on the team, I’m always going to have a chance to win.”

Idk how he could make a statement that was equal parts panic inducing, and reassuring. But bravo.

Seems like a reasonable answer tbh

Totally reasonable. Said, basically, for the next 8 years he wants to get it every year. I expect nothing less. A lot of reinforcement that *he* is why the team is a championship contender and I hope that energy stays through the spring.

His answers are great, he seems hungry, got me excited to watch him play again.

He is apart of the reason that they fail in the playoffs

Love this guy. He definitely has his shortcomings, but Jo is loyal to a fault. Hope we can put a squad around him next year and truly contend. Want this guy in the red white and blue for life

After watching him in the press conference I actually feel way better about things. I saw very little frustration from Embiid. he was recognizing the difficulties with Harden, but otherwise sounded optimistic. Emphasized consistency and growing the team with Nurse, and talked a bit about how important it would be to win a championship in Philly. Doesn’t sound like a guy who’s tuned out at all.

You guys are all smoking primo copium. He’s gone next year and Daryl Morey is getting fired.

  8. RockNJocks

This was the nice way of him telling Morey to fix this or he is going to be out.

Embiid has always said he wants to be like Kobe and Dirk – single franchise for his whole career. Did the Knicks wait for him after two years of injury? GTFOH with the complete ignorance of what Philly means to Joel

He’s frustrated, but damn is he confident. I just want him to get a backbone of his own in pressure cooker moments. The MVP shouldn’t need PJ Tucker to fire him up in the clutch. All love Jo, show the world you got what it takes.

I think this is about as level-headed a statement as you can expect out of someone in Joel’s situation, and I think 99.9% of people suggesting they’d personally react with more full-throated loyalty to the Sixers are either lying to themselves or unable to take off their fan glasses.

Dude is delusional. He hasn’t come close & always inexplicably shows up disinterested and bitchy to the most important games

True that. And it doesn’t matter where you are. Nothing is guaranteed ever so it’s better to stick to your values

how many reporters are going to cut this off before the “but”?

IMHO…. the best chance of the Sixers reaching the NBA finals is not who is surrounding Embiid this season, but whether Embiid can somehow get over that mental hump that seems to hinder him in the post season these past few years. You know, the one where he just seems disinterested or gives up to easily when things aren’t going his way. A mentally tough Embiid is what this team needs more than any one player that they could have brought in.
