[Ava Wallace] The Wizards, under a new front office, have picked up Coach Wes Unseld Jr.’s fourth-year option, according to multiple people w/ knowledge of the situation. That keeps Unseld in place through ‘24-25 as the Wizards begin a rebuild.

  1. Tank rolls on. Hopefully Wes can at least develop some promising concepts and not allow the locker room to get away from him like Silas did with the Rockets. They just need discipline and good work ethic.

I enjoyed his press conference. Besides the comment about Bilal on the G-League which was taken out of context, he seems pretty willing to allow guys to work through mistakes and get their reps.

Ty Lue’s contract is up in 2025 as well btw

People will hate especially the overreactors on Twitter but I’m not mad at all with this decision.

    A few scattered thoughts:

    1. Excited to see what he does without spare parts and a playoff mandate.

    2. He was hired for his development pedigree in Denver, and that’s the only measuring stick that should be used moving forward.

    3. Whoever the coach is, this team wasn’t going to win much anyway so now it’s about leading the locker room and really building a culture from scratch. (This is the opportunity he should have gotten two years ago FWIW)

    4. He takes a lot of blame for last season’s shortcomings that IMHO he doesn’t deserve. That team won 34 games in a season Beal only played 50. When he did have Delon in the lineup, they were 26-24. We weren’t better than Toronto, Atlanta or Chicago and expecting to finish above them was not realistic.

    5. It’s also clear now if it wasn’t before that Winger/Dawkins are definitely aligned with Bilal starting in the G League (which is fine btw)

  4. Good. As he should. This is what clearing the house of veterans and giving young talent the opportunity to grow and develop looks like. It applies to young coaches too.

The board’s finally cleared of dinosaur Beal and the moronic expectations of making the playoffs with a team that doesn’t even have a top 50 player.

If you want to keep losing, which should be the goal of this team for the next few years, he’s a good enough man for the job.

Was there a deadline? Otherwise why not wait and see how the year goes?

Our offense was gonna be Poole and Kuz combining for 60 shots per game regardless
