[Johnson] Klay Thompson will guard the 4 in this lineup, Steve Kerr says. The Warriors see Klay as someone who can take advantage of his strength defensively in this case and it’s part of the evolution of his game

  1. Try it in the preseason, see that it obviously doesn’t work, and make the obvious change of moving Paul to the bench. There’s no scenario of him starting that makes any sort of sense

Ah, so basically Klay perimeter defense is cooked and they want to explore him going away from that as soon as possible, but even then Klay guarding the 4 means that the substitutions are going to be happening a lot quicker with those 5 lol

  3. MadWalrus

It’ll probably be an adjustment for Klay to be banging down low on defense – but on offense I’d imagine this is going to get him a lot of open looks.

  4. KlaysToaster

I mean yeah, Klay shouldn’t be guarding small guards anymore he should be guarding forwards. Wiggins can guard small guards tho

  5. Lol I said Klay is not a guard yesterday and 4 people downvoted

    Klay is washed.

He wants big money too. Hard pass. Let him go after the season.

You know the season is almost here when this sub starts to shit on Klay. I hope he signs his extension before the season starts.

This is obvious, it is an unavoidable situation.

Looney is guarding the center, obviously. Curry and CP3 are old, so you are going to want Wiggins to take on the assignment of guarding the top perimeter player to save their legs. So then you choose between Curry, CP3, and Klay to guard the 4. I know which player I’m choosing.

If you want to give CP3 enough minutes to keep him happy, you need to play him with Curry. If you do that, you need a strong POA defender next to them (Wiggins, GP2). So if Klay is going to get the playing time he needs, he’s gotta guard some 4.

In closing lineup moments they can try to give Curry/CP3 more perimeter defensive responsibility and let Wiggins guard the 4 and put Klay on a perimeter matchup, but it’d be dumb to do that all season. These guys aren’t in their 20s anymore, you gotta focus on preserving their legs for the playoffs.

This will take a lot out of his legs though so his shooting might actually dip or be in a longer droughts

Looney gunna have to average 20 rebounds a game

  11. KnownGarlic4695

It could work but Klay has to box out or crash the boards and that is something we never really seen him do…

  12. jeloxd_official

GG were not using our goat lineup of last year that outscored other starting 5’s by over 20 points

  13. warriors2021

If Steph or Klay gets injured, then CP3 should start. Saric or JK should be starting when Dray is injured. Klay guarding the 4, jesus.

  14. Desafiante

That’s a super talented but super small lineup.

  15. KajAmGroot

I’ll never forgot Klay Thompson blocking scoring title year Carmelo Anthony off the backboard on a post up. Dude is stronger than he looks. I think he kinda sucks at rebounding though lol

  16. EquipmentNo9500

This is THE SLOWEST and least athletic lineup in the league

  17. Consistent_Internal5

Klay is our best 3 point shooting center

  18. CarryOnUptheMorning

We should be bedding in and starting kuminga with dray out but instead we are going with this super slow unathletic small lineup. I don’t want to see CP3 start it’ll not work. This will just lead to Klay being in foul trouble super early

If you watch the video, Kerr was talking about this Saturday’s game. During the season 2-4.

  20. Nessmuk58

It’s a nice way, I think, of saying that Wiggs is quicker and more likely to be able to stay with the 3.

  21. This actually makes sense lmao. Klay is clearly losing his lateral speed year after year PLUS the speed he’s already post from his injuries.

If he can buff up like Steph did he’ll be a monster defending bigger but slower forewards.

  22. jonnyeatic

I called it last year. I basically said he’s Kevin Love at this stage of his career. But not as good at rebounding.

  23. riosborne

Klay is strong enough and holds up well against people trying to back him down. Thought he even held up well against LeBron in those situations last year in the playoffs. So yes, with other people using smaller lineups, I don’t hate it. He is 6’7″. So. Ya know. technically big enough.
