The Wizards Are Entering The Jordan Poole Era…

The Washington Wizards have been in no man’s land for a while now, missing the playoffs in four out of the last five seasons, but never being bad enough to land a top-5 pick and a franchise altering player. They haven’t had a pick in the top three since the 2013 NBA draft, which would be fine if they were competing, but they never made the conference finals over that span. But the team finally committed to a full rebuild this offseason under new team president Michael Winger. They traded their top two players from last season in Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. Interestingly enough, they re-signed their third best player in 28 year old Kyle Kuzma, who averaged 21 points per game last season. But that won’t really keep them in any playoff chase. I’d say right now there are only two teams who are clearly not making a real push for the playoffs, which is less than usual, and they would be the Wizards and the Trail Blazers. The team will now hand the keys to Kuzma, and the recently acquired Jordan Poole. The 24-year-old guard is one of the league’s best young scorers. He averaged 20 points per game last season, and played a very key role in the Warriors championship victory in 2022. Many players on the team have said that they couldn’t have done it without Jordan. He’ll be one of the candidates for most improved player this season, and we could see his scoring jump closer to thirty points per game with all the shots he’ll be allowed to take. They also added former Grizzly, Tyus Jones, who has been arguably the best backup point guard in the game for a couple years, and will finally get his chance to be a starter with Washington. The team will also look for steps forward from former first round picks like Deni Avdija, Corey Kispert, and Johnny Davis. If we’re being honest here, the team won’t be all that good. But they’re not trying to be. This will be a season where they look for development from their key players, and hope to land a top three pick in a draft that features Ron Holland, Matas Buzelis, and another French big man in Alex Sarr at the top. But one thing is for sure, a lot of eyes will be on Jordan Poole, and he’ll be out to prove the doubters wrong. The Wizards are entering the Jordan Poole era.

Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 11k!!!
