[Wojnarowski] “I’ve been told that once the league gets done with these media rights negotiations, probably over the next year, the league will start to look toward expansion… Certainly Las Vegas, along with Seattle.”

Is this news? I thought we knew this already. I at least was already under this impression.

Lots of older players said, including on Open Court, that they don’t think the league will nor should have a team in Las Vegas because everyone knows what would happen there. As a summer center of happening it’s great, but that’s just such a bad idea.
Then again the way Silver leads the NBA is highly questionable and he’s gone full Charmin so it’s probably gonna happen. Welcome to the Eastern Conference, New Orleans.

Van city needs a team
DismalScreen6290
Wish they’d look at Vancouver instead of Vegas. Much bigger NBA fanbase in Vancouver now. Seattle definitely should get one first
DudeWTH
so what team is moving to the east
cool_coyote
This isn’t new news, but now that Woj is saying it, it means that expansion is pretty much a done deal.

Please no las vegas
SwiggySiggyDoc
Seattle and Van City imo, not Vegas
OnlyMamaKnows
Even if it’s not gambling, so many players will get into trouble in Vegas if they put a team there. Crazy to me that they’re considering it but who am I
Pelicanfan07
I know it would be controversial but here’s what I would do
Put a team in Seattle and Vancouver. Move either the Pelicans or Minnesota to the east and move the Grizzlies to Nashville.
LawrenceBrolivier
It should probably be Vancouver instead of Vegas but considering how solidly and almost inextricably tied together the NBA and gambling is now, it’s a (business) no brainer for there to actually *be* a Vegas team. Especially now that the Raiders are there for the NFL.
I keep wondering if the Seattle team won’t actually get to be the SuperSonics, too. I’d like the PNW rivalry to not only return, but be extended to Vancouver, but the NBA in the Silver Era is really good at coming up with really complicated, multi-level ways to be disappointing.
Although once the TV deal is done and expansion begins I’m pretty sure Jody Allen finally sells the Blazers to Phil Knight so that oughta be interesting.

I was going to post I wish they’d do Vancouver instead of Vegas but a lot of you beat me to it already

“Success of other professional franchises in that city”.
The Golden Knights do very well. The Raiders are 30th in attendance this year after being 30th last year as well. The A’s are building what will be, by *far* the smallest ballpark in MLB, and will likely be really low on both attendance and regional tv revenue. Las Vegas is the #40 market in the US. The smallest market with MLB-NFL-NBA-NHL currently is Miami at #18. The smallest market that even has 3 of the 4 is Pittsburgh at #26.
Las Vegas is a 1 or 2 team market that they’re trying to shove 4 teams into. Las Vegas had crazy growth 25-30 years ago, but that has slowed considerably (and will probably continue to do so as climate change and drought continue to occur). It’s going to work out terribly for all parties imo.

Man I fuckin hate that Vegas is always 1st for teams what a miserable city that will probably cease to exist due to drought in a few decades

Your daily reminder that the Sonics were stolen from the Seattle fanbase. BRING BACK THE SONICS!!!
UpbeatFix7299
I hope Sea gets a team again. That ass Bennett stole the team from a real city any moved it to a natural gas field because the taxpayers wouldn’t let him shake them down.

I really don’t want a Vegas team
teal_iceberg
It’s incredibly unlikely at this point but man I wish it was Seattle and KC. KC wouldn’t make as much money for the league as Vegas but it’d be such a good city for a team
ablackcloudupahead
It will be interesting seeing how Vegas quickly locals adopt the new team. Probably because of proximity, there is a huge Laker fanbase in Vegas. I’m excited to get the Sonics back though
ObviousAnswerGuy
expansion draft is gonna be fun.
And by “fun”, I mean every teams fans will throw a collective shit fit again when their favorite end-of-the-roster player gets swiped (Greg Anthony, you’re still my guy 😂)

It would be cool if KD finishes his career in Seattle

The Vegas market is going to get oversaturated.

We need Seattle, Vegas, Vancouver, and Kansas City so we can move Minnesota and Memphis to the Eastern Conference.
Will_Vintage
I’m personally hoping for Seattle (obviously) and Vancouver so we can do a Cascadia Cup but Basketball like in Soccer.
TechnoDriv3
Please man, been a long 15 years pretending to be fans of other teams. Its been so long since Seattle got moved, I have heard for the past 10 years about how an expansion is gonna come, but it never did. If Woj says it, Im gonna fully believe it.
