What have we learned from Boston Celtics bench, Payton Pritchard, Kristaps Porzings, so far?

The Celtics have played three preaseason games in rapid succession. So what have we learned so far? Is it fair to judge all of these bench players and fringe guys based on what we’ve seen? What about Payton Pritchard, who has been awesome so far this season? Is he going to be able to carry this into the regular season? And what have we seen from the regulars in limited minutes? John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal and Tom Westerholm discuss it all.

  1. It’s going to be a battle for that backup center position. I agree with the last podcast that we haven’t been able to see Kornet full potential with the Jays but those other guys are hungry. Same with Sam. Pritchard proved the doubters wrong.. at least in preseason.

  2. I truly believe hauser will have the bigger impact of the bench he just yells really good with the one's Everytime he starts he averages 15 points and he also is what they need spot up 3pt shooter and really good defensively I mean he was only the 2nd best defender in the team last season.

  3. I don’t agree with the Payton Pritchard heartache however is, he’s played this well before and he’s done it in the playoffs so don’t sleep on PP

  4. imo you can take alot of info from what we're seeing, just not the complete info. all of these role players whether brisett or hauser or whoever we're brought here to play with and accentuate the Js. if guys like, pp, hauser and svi can make open shots playing with inferior players, doesnt it stand to reason they'll shoot better when playing with the Js? and imo we've seen a few times already stevens and brissett be wide open. and they bricked. brissett had a couple of layups he bricked. they're never going to evolve into the shooters sam, pp and svi are even with playing with the Js. they will get a bit better but remain who they are: decent defenders, high energy/hustle and bad offensively.

and for context, i'd add here that among the 6 (lets add in banton), hauser has been the best defender. brissett and stevens are just better than pp, banton and maybe svi. so do we really need both brissett and stevens? nope. they are the same player. there's already a player in the rotation who's better than them at both sides of the ball. i'd keep one for certain strength matchups but i'd have no qualms of getting rid of the other.

having svi around also minimizes the need for banton though hes certainly intriguing because he's young. i wouldnt hesitate to trade him and brisset for a better backup big.

  5. an eventual second lineup of pritch, JD, Walsh, ?, and Kornet is super solid- small at the guard but lethal in the break for sure
