How The New Orleans Jazz Became The Utah Jazz

A brief dive into the rise and fall of the New Orleans Jazz, an expansion team who joined the NBA in 1974. Despite having Pistol Pete Maravich, one of the most electrifying players of his era, the Jazz never made the playoffs and were ultimately forced to relocate to Utah. But why?

  1. Hey! I'm gonna be super busy in the upcoming week, so the next video may take a little longer than usual. There's also some moments in this video where I reuse some clips twice. I'm really sorry about that, there's always something that I miss! Ugh!

  2. Great video. Nothing went right for the Jazz when they were in NO. Especially the loss of all those draft picks. Some might say it proves that NBA rigging predates David Stern.

  3. I would say this is probably the best YouTube video I've seen about pistol Pete maravich and his time with the New Orleans jazz.

  4. Great stuff, thanks! Such a shame that RIGHT when they were hitting their stride as a team (with that 10W streak), Maravich suffered that injury never to be the same again… Pistol was pretty much at his very best at that point (even finding more of a balance between scoring and passing), and FINALLY had a nice roster around him that was also built around his style!
Maybe.. if Pete never injured himself, and the New Orleans Jazz made the Playoffs (like they were on track to).. they wouldn’t have moved to Utah. That’s just maybe though, because of the financial part and what the owner wanted, so on.. But yeah, UTAH Jazz doesn’t sound right til this day!

  5. Gotta love that line from the movie BASEketball when talking about pro teams moving city’s, “and the Jazz moved to Utah where they don’t allow music” 😂

  6. The Pistol also had a bad heart and after his death at 42, it was discovered and he could have died suddenly of it at anytime during his lifetime. Pete M. and Dr. J where my favorites as a kid growing up the the mid and late 70's. The Sixers where on weekend Tv all the time. i had to follow the Jazz by newspaper or The Sporting News and Sports illustrated. Once they left New Orleans I followed them for as long as PM was with the team which was not long after.

  7. Man Pete would crush in todays league. Especially with the 3 pt line. His work ethic was god tier. so sad his pops was so tyrannical
