[Owczarski] For those wondering, Terry Stotts is not retiring. He still plans to coach.

So just like a fundamental disagreement with AG on how to run the team? Or how to run the offense? I wonder if we’ll get any additional details on this. It’s definitely going to put more heat on Griffin if the Dame/Giannis pairing starts off slow and remains clunky through Christmas

I would have more confidence in the guy with years of head coaching experience walking out the door than the year one coach still here if there was a disagreement.

Anyway you look at it this is not great.

I’m happy he’s gone then. It’s Griffs team and if he doesn’t want to be apart of his staff then you let him walk.

Stotts got fired in 2021 and hasn’t had a job since, was he “continuing to coach” over that two year period? No, he’s been interviewing with many teams for HC openings (Lakers, Hornets) with no luck. Wouldn’t even accept an assistant role with them after not getting the HC position. He chose to sit around vs be an assistant.

Dame was a one man top 5 offense with Billups for 2 seasons he’ll be fine.

What if he ends up back at Portland as head coach over Billups?

Stotts is a good faithful husband and he couldn’t take seeing Giannis and Dame on the court together any longer without feeling morally dirty and corrupt.

This is meh news. I was hoping they could coexist but if they can’t, then I would rather the locker room not be split between two respected coaches.

I’m still hoping for a lot of off ball movement to get guys open though.

If there was a fundamental difference it’s reassuring that a first year coach has the balls and confidence to let someone like stotts walk rather than letting it fester throughout a season. If this isn’t the spot for you, keep moving, let the HC keep the reigns.

How do we know he plans on coaching? Did not see anything he said in the link.

Just walking out on your team is a bad way to get to continue coaching.

Who would hire a guy that can’t make it through preseason on a championship contender?
