There Is Something DIFFERENT About Scottie Barnes…

Scottie Barnes shocked the league by winning rookie of the year in 2022, over the likes of guys like Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, and Jalen Green. Most people thought there were three clear guys at the top of that draft, and a lot of people even had Jalen Suggs over Scottie. He was thought of as more of a project entering the 2021 NBA Draft, and that he’d take some time to develop. I think a lot of people forget that, and it might explain what a lot of people were calling a disappointing second season. His points per game were the exact same in year two as in year one, and he saw his rebounds per game, field goal percentage and three point percentage all take a dip. The team replaced head coach Nick Nurse this offseason, who won the title with the team in 2019, with Darko Rajaković, who was a Grizzlies assistant last season. He’s known for his player development, and can help some of the young guys reach their true potential. Based on that and his timeline, I’d say we’re about to see a massive breakout season from Scottie. He’s entering his third season, and this is the year we could see a real offensive leap from him. Some fans have started to notice some similarities between his early career and that of Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s known to be an extremely hard worker, and the offseason work was on full display in the preseason. This work ethic combined with the developmental skill of coach Darko will help to raise his ceiling dramatically. This preseason, he averaged 19 points and 6 rebounds in just 22 minutes per game. But this biggest change for Scottie has been his efficiency, as he’s shot 63% from the field and 50% from three. He’s taking threes and hitting them, which is a big change, as that has been viewed as his most glaring weakness in the past. If you flex his numbers out, he’s averaged 31 points per 36 minutes, as he’s been a legitimately dominant offensive presence. He looks much more confident with his shot, and he is clearly a much improved offensive talent. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he makes his first all-star game this season.

Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 12k!!!

  1. Otto was held when he was cutting. Could’ve connected on the pass without that. Yes the no look was unnecessary. So, could ding him for that

  2. Good analysis. I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen from Scottie thus far in the preseason. And Precious is about to take a great leap IMO. I don’t get the Vegas 37 win number. Don’t they account for in-team growth and improvement? Scottie, Precious, Gary, Jakob? And Pascal seems to get better every single year. Odd …
