As much as his big blocks in preseason were outstanding highlights, I feel like his presence helped to alter even more shots. The way he prowled the lane seemed to make a lot of driving wings rethink/alter their layups and floaters. He created a lot of misses just from the threat of his blocks/contests. He doesn’t have quite the physical tools Victor does, but I don’t think Victor has quite the instincts and mentality that Chet does either.
Sure he’s going to run into strong guards like Ant and Scoot who want to try to posterize him, and guys like Embiid, Giannis, and Jokic, that will look to bully him, but no one in the league will reliably stop any of those guys anyway.
I do sometimes worry that Chet’s motor and killer instinct are a little too reckless at times and he puts his body on the line too much (kind of like his fellow former Zag and HS teammate Jalen Suggs), but the energy and effort especially on defense is hard to question. I’m so excited for him to show what he can do on the big stage.
