Mailbag: Jayson Tatum playing big, Kristaps Porzingis as Kevin Durant, & Boston Celtics culture

We open up the mailbag once again to get questions on Jayson Tatum looking like a true power forward, Kristaps Porzings playing like Kevin Durant, and extensions for Jrue Holiday and Derrick White. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal answers all that, plus why teams on fast breaks flare guys out to the corners, getting Neemias Queta off the two-way, Celtics culture, and getting Terry Rozier off the Hornets.

  1. Another great one, thanks. Also why doesnt Kevin McHale stop by. They need some of his moves

  2. It's going to be nice having an aggressive center. Horford was always good, but his aggression level is so low. He could've been taking 12-15 shots a game but always seemed to only take like 6.

  3. As it has been for the past few seasons, the Celtics will be the Celtics toughest competition 😅

  4. Think the flexibility concept is correct and has already been validated TWICE this offseason. No one knew, back at the beginning of the offseason, that KP or Jrue were going to become available. I agree–it would have to be something CRAZY–but sure, why constrain yourself if you don't have to?

  5. Terry? TERRY? Is he still one of the most inefficient scorers in the NBA? Is this person also in favor of bringing back IT? C'mon…

Yes: Derrick White, better by FAR. Not contestable. I'm sure these people are thinking Terry would be some sort of Microwave Sixth Man. And, as you said, they clearly forget that NO ONE has a higher vision of Terry than Terry. Terry would INSIST on starting… and he's NOT GOOD ENOUGH to start on this team. Let it go, TR fans, let it go.

  6. Last szn the Celtics were not willing to trade 3pointers for open layups.. gotta see this szn which isn’t that far from now.. hope Mazulla has grown up on and off the floor as much as everyone has says. I see a change in his demanor and attitude and I’ve seen the pre season but all that showed me is how the guys could coexist with each other but I’m not gonna be fooled on the play style like last year. This team was phenomenal on offense the first 30ish games not just the 3pointers but the ball was moving, I want to see consistency this year and sadly we don’t have the bench like we did last year knowing that guys will need to rest some and we still won 57 games. Hope this team doesn’t chase the number one seed, do we have been better on the road in the playoffs anyways we lost too much at home the last 2 years

  7. Hi all, I’m a Latvian American from DC and have been following KP since he got drafted by the Knicks. I’m very excited about his opportunity in BOS, though I hope Latvians in Boston get love like we did in DC. Latvian Heritage Nights were never going to be a revenue generator given our population numbers, but we sure felt special. Go, Celtics!

  8. I don't think anyone has a problem with a wide open Brown three at 18 seconds. The problem is when he turns over on a subpar drive of course to the right.
I agree it's nothing to worry about because Joe will protect against it in the playoffs and it won't be worse than last year. But it makes me roll my eyes when he talks about improving upon his craft.
