Memphis will now enter the regular season without Ja Morant (suspension), Brandon Clarke (injury rehab) and Steven Adams (injury).
The Grizzlies have 15 players on guaranteed contracts.
Here are their options:
1. They can file a Disabled Player Exception request to the NBA for Adams. The DPE is valued at $6.3M (50% of the Adams salary) if granted. Memphis would need to have an open roster spot.
2. Starting on 11/2 Memphis can move Morant to the suspended list and sign a replacement player.
3. Memphis also has the $12.4M non-tax midlevel, $7.5M trade and $4.5M biannual exception.
4. The Grizzlies are $17.1M below the luxury tax.

I think the big question on whether or not they bite on doing a trade to fix the issue is just how much they feel like they absolutely need to compete this season and/or how rushed they are from a cap perspective. Timelord might be worth a call to the Blazers to see if a swap with Adams works but how much draft capital does that cost and is it worth it for another guy who is also injury prone?
I would unironically trade for Wiseman, he’s hometown maybe it clicks, it probably won’t. But you have nothing to lose.

I don’t think any big in the league can play Adams’ role on the Grizzlies as well as he can. There are really only a few guys that can set half decent screens and box out like Adams and the Grizzlies can’t realistically get them.
Just like last season, 90% of posters on here will ignore the massive impact Adams’ absence has on the Grizzlies if the team underperforms.

Yeah people are talking about the Kings not making the playoffs but Memphis is way more likely not to make it. 25 games is a very significant amount of games to not have your best player. You also didn’t even mention them losing Tyus too. I think they’ll probably at least get into the play in but it’s entirely possible they don’t make it at all
