Cam Johnson returning to the Nets lineup just in time

Though he didn’t play at all in the preseason, it looks like Cam Johnson is back in the mix for the Brooklyn Nets and will be able to roll in the first game of the season Wednesday.

The Locked on Nets guys take a look at what Cam brings to the team and how he is uniquely positioned to raise the overall floor of the play.

They look at how he fits in with the current starting lineup, how his abilities pair with Ben Simmons and others, plus what to expect from his play.

  1. Cam Johnson is a huge key for Brooklyn.

Everyone needs to remember he wasn't available for the preseason but he's all healthy now and ready to contribute….

Johnson had a breakout beginning with Brooklyn last season and was the most consistent breakout player in that playoff series against Philly.

Johnson's offensive versatility is something Brooklyn wants to see more of and he's a good leader for this team and an active learner always looking to improve his craft….

  2. Cam Johnson the player is a good core member. But the high level IQ of Cam Johnson is even more exciting. While he was recovering from his little injury he was in the gym the whole time watching his teammates learning the new schemes from the bench and being an active team member helping his teammates.

Johnson and Bridges are both top level players who want to play competitive basketball at a high level and build this team's foundation the right way…..

  3. Cam Johnson's minutes aren't going to be too much for the first game. That will most likely give more minutes to Dorian Finney Smith and Royce o Neale to play competitive defensive and make their buckets.

  4. Ben Simmon's assist passes are going to be very advantageous for Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Cam Thomas Dorian Finney Smith and Royce o Neale who all can knock their three point buckets down . But also Ben causing opposing defense to break down so he can get his teammates even better open looks is going to be something to watch out for….

  5. I think Cam will be ok. His minutes will be limited for the first few games. After that I think we will see him hit his stride and do quite well.

  6. Won’t be surprised if he’s a little rusty coming back…he’ll be hitting them 3’s tho and hoopin like we all know

  7. It's easy to understand the reason why many fans bestow overly optimistic praise on a few Nets players, even before the regular season began. It's a natural need to want to feel good about your favorite team/players and their direction. Cam Johnson is the latest, in a series players, that'll receive an abundance of positive compliments. For many, he played well enough, but I thought his performance, in the FIBA World Cup, was a little disappointing. Maybe it came too soon after he signed a 4 year $108 million contract. That's the thing that stuck in my mind after he was benched by Steve Kerr.

  8. I'm sure Cam Johnson appreciate the leverage he had when it came time to sign a new contract with the Nets. He came over with the KD trade and he's the best friend of the Nets "best" player (Bridges) that we want to build around and keep happy. He was a good/not great player for Phoenix and he put put up good numbers only when he came to a bad team. (Brooklyn) We were 13-15 after the KD trade and not a playoff caliber team. He's had durability issues in the past, including missing 40 games in 2022 dues to a torn meniscus. As far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out on how much of an empack he'll have on the Nets progress. Hopefully, we didn't overpay him.

  9. It's just preseason but we were ranked 22nd in team defense, 29th in steals, 29th in turnovers and our offensive/defensive rebounding is nothing to brag about. If coming up with a bunch of positive narratives about the Nets progress, designed to make the Nets fan base feel good, making them before the regular season is as good of a time as any to make them. The first 10 games of the regular season will be rough. Six of them were playoff teams last season. Expectations should be kept low in that way if we exceed them, it'll feel better, psychologically, than if our expectations were too high and we fail miserably.

  10. This is why I never understood Doug's constant worrying about floor spacing during the pre season when CJ wasn't even on the court. When Mikal was clearly getting light minutes. You have to wait for the entire team to be assembled before all the hand-wringing, LOL

  11. I’ve been vocal about us going after Dame and to find out he actually tried to come here after the Miami talks fell through but Marks didn’t want him was disheartening.

this preseason has done nothing but highlighted the fact that we need a main go to scorer and had one within reach 🤦🏾‍♂️ we’re gonna struggle this season fellas

  12. I’m sorry when it comes to sports I’m in dollars and cents guy and if you’re making a considerable amount of money I expect more that’s just the name of the game. So for me, I’m gonna expect a lot more from cam Johnson and his performance in FIBA leaves a lot to be desired and kind of should bring everyone’s expectations down to earth on what cam Johnson is remember he’s 27 years old not 23 years old so he’s much closer to a finished product. He was given an opportunity in FIBa to be a starter and he lost his starting position and then lost his rotational minutes. Another thing Mark’s has struck out a considerable amount of times when it comes to handing out big contracts to three and D wings most if not all of them have been a disappointment.. cam Johnson needs to be even consistent 18 point scorer.
