  1. Mickey already cost us a ring and will likely continue doing so until he sells

Yeah Owner has no interest in winning titles if it costs him more money.

And yet he’s paid something like the 7th most tax since it was implemented, and paid more often than all but 5 teams iirc.

  4. We have to be near perfect to win it all (and have some injury luck).

Almost every other contender has one or two extra starter-level players to help keep the stars fresh or allow for more matchup flexibility in the playoffs.

Oh I didn’t really it was the National Accounting Association. Must have missed the memo when we started playing / winning championships by Tax dollars saved instead of basketball titles won.

Guess we should hang some banners.

Copying my post from another thread:

It’s amazing to me how many people seem to hate Micky Arison. The way some of the people here talk you’d think he was Jimmy Haslem or Dan Snyder… you’d think he wasn’t the person who brought in Pat Riley, and wasn’t the owner for 7 NBA finals appearances and 3 NBA titles.

He’s one of the best owners in pro sports, and people here criticize him for not wanting to spends tens to hundreds of millions more of his own money in taxes and player salary. It’s insane to me. We literally have the 6th highest payroll in NBA according to Spotrac, 5th according the Basketball Reference, 8th according to Hoopshype, and people act like this is the Jeffrey Loria Marlins.

  7. Referencing Hoopshype, here are the salaries for the Heat and their rank amongst their peers that season, followed by the the team who is first that season and their salaries, and the championship winner and their salaries and rank, going back to the last championship Miami won.

Last season seems to be an outlier, otherwise when we were contending we have always been a top 10 team in spending. 2018/2019 stands out (bleh), 2016/2017 might of been the worst team we’ve rolled out.

Then when you look at the teams that won, it’s almost like winning a championship needs a generational talent of a player who has been an MVP in their career, with only Toronto standing out as one that didn’t.

For those defending Mickey as a spender, you’re either looking at the last 20 years and not accounting for 95.3% of his tax spending coming from 2014 and earlier OR you’re comparing his current spending to the entire league instead of to current contender teams.

The Heat already have a cultural and geographical advantage over a lot of other teams. We are a draw. The weakest part of our organization is that our owner no longer wants to spend as much as our top competitors. Of the top 10 teams Vegas picks to win this year, 5 of them are out spending the Heat. Of the top 5 teams picked, 3 of them are. Of the teams in the East, both Boston and Milwaukee are out spending us on the tax.
