idk how this has happened, but some how people are convinced that it’s the players that either don’t want to go out there and play through small issues, or that they can play and are simply choosing not to
and i don’t like that at all

Players wanna play, this isn’t on them. Its teams wanting to sit players because of potential trades, load management, or tanking purposes. This is just pandering and a missed opportunity to get at the real button pushers.

In front of the commish too. Charles is the shit.

Nothing hits home better than a Charles Barkley Truism! 🙂
rawsharks
The fact they are such expensive assets is exactly why teams are reluctant to overplay them. Teams aren’t going to play people like Jokic and Giannis 4 games a week because they want as little mileage on them as possible before the playoffs.
THUGNs_on_Mars
Players would rather duck the smoke and sit out then play when not at a 100% to avoid criticism. Still can’t get over Embid sitting out during last years MVP race.
AutographedSnorkel
Anybody that thinks a star player like LeBron or Curry is completely helpless on load management days is either clueless or being intentionally obtuse. All Curry has to do is drop one IG post saying that he wants to play, and he’s going to play. These guys just don’t appreciate the fans like old school players did
DontBanMe_IWasJoking
i mean when you put it like that, yea

You don’t ever see hockey players taking games off for load management. You can’t force those guys off the ice on game days. NBA players are soft. Still love the league, but they soft. Ain’t no dawgs in this league compared to the NHL.
RVAIsTheGreatest
Chuck is absolutely right. Completely.
Just think it’s a little offensive to the players to act as if they don’t wanna play. Playing Basketball is if anything the only part these guys truly enjoy as professionals. That’s why they go through the ice baths and pre and post-game warm ups and cool downs. The media, the morning practice sessions. It’s because they love Basketball.

This league is utter embarrassment. No other sport leagues have this level of load management. NBA players mentality nowadays are just weak.

He spitting facts. Nba superstars are not out on the court enough and it sucks. Nobody is asking them to be machines; they’re people and I respect that. But they play 82 games in hockey as well and in my 35 years of life I have yet to hear any talk about “load management”. Make travel easier for the players to address the constant fatigue issue cuz it’s nonsense.

It became shit when guys went from being players for a team, to seeing themselves as a diminishing return commodity. They view themselves as a business and a brand and will do anything to extend the brand and their lifespan of their brand.

This and the domestic abuse questions. Extremely common Chuck Ws

Right before this, they pointed out that the teams are utilizing load management, not the players, then Chuck says this, people dont listen man

“Also, if you don’t win the championship, you wasted the entire season.”

Isn’t that why teams want their stars to take off games for rest?
Isn’t it BECAUSE they’re paying them so much money. They want them healthy for the playoffs, right?
blazinit430
Obviously, I hate the Celtics. But I respect the shit out of Tatum for his comments about playing for the fans who only get a couple chances a year to see him.

As soon as Inside the NBA’s back we got Barkley-related posts dominating the sub, but in a good way. Glad to see them back

Oh wow, Barkley with another incredibly brave and controversial opinion. Thank you for taking a stand.

I think this is such a bad take.
Load managements are what teams want to do to protect their assets, whether to reduce injury risks, or to increase their championship odds, or lottery odds.
I would say those situations cause players to miss games way more than players just asking to sit out so they can just chill and not play.
ReverendStonks
The problem is this is the exact reason they don’t play. Teams have a vested interest in ensuring they get as much return (playoff run) from their assets as possible.
All the people pointing out the NHL are missing the point. These guys love basketball just as much, but when a hockey player gets hurt he doesn’t lose $40MM
whistlin4
perhaps ironically it seems that the more you pay a player the more fearful you are of injury, so you pamper your “investment”

Charles says what everyone else is thinking and is too afraid to say.
I know that’s cliche, but it takes balls to say things like that.
He speaks his mind and most times shows he just isn’t some former player analyst
