People panicking about Scoot need to realize heâs 19. Itâs going to be two year before he can legally drink alcohol. People remember how Dame was in his rookie year and expect Scoot to hit the ground running. Itâs going to take time and heâs going to get plenty of it to grow this season.
Ayton looked good tonight. 14 points on 9 shots is crazy efficient. And he had some nice plays in the clutch. Once guys get used to playing with each other, theyâll get it to him for more shots.
TheLetterOh
All y’all jumping off the scoot hype train after two games is ridiculous and you can get fucked.
Also what the fuck are we doing a Jerami post up for the most important possession of the game for? That’s some weak ass shit Chauncey.
At least the game was competitive.

Seeing this amount of fans shitting on Scoot as heâs 19 and playing his second game in the NBA is lame. Scoot is being asked to orchestrate the entire offense of a team thatâs been together for about 2 months. Iâd expect this shit from twitter and instagram, but to see it from a sub dedicated to the Blazers is gross. Heâs going to be fine.
toadtruck
Losing is fine. Looking like shit is not. Billups game plan on defense is just foul
ItsKrakenmeuptoo
Donât expect more than 20 wins boys.
That last play made it pretty clear they want to continue tanking.
terrordactylz
Chauncey continues to show that he has no clue what heâs doing. Scoot looked rough but he couldnât ever get into a rhythm due to the foul trouble. The one bright spot was Sharpe.
TubbzMcGee
Game was actually close for some suspect reffing and losing Ant few hours before.

Many of you wanted to trade Dame and rebuild. This is what rebuild looks like. Stop complaining and support the young guys. Itâs gonna be a looooong season.
trebbihm
Way better than last game.
Flaky_Road2351
Chauncey needs to go. Heâs hindering the development of our young core.

Thanks for reading my recaps! Iâll be traveling for the next couple weeks and unable to watch the games live, so I wonât be really in any of the game threads (thank god for league pass though). Anyways, here are some of my takeaways from this game.
* Good effort by the blazers to get Ayton involved early in the game. Iâd still like to see him get the ball more in the low post, but he definitely was more involved than last game. Also, there was one play where he caught the ball at halfcourt, dribbled towards the rim and eurostepped past Cole Anthony who was trying to take a charge, and made a terrific dumpoff pass to Walker for free throws. Love seeing that, and itâs not something youâd see him do in Phoenix. He also did a pretty solid job staying in front of Orlandoâs wings on switches. * Scoot looked more confident. I wouldnât say he played a great game, but he didnât look out of place on the court at least. * Sharpe looked great offensively. That midrange is really starting to become a weapon for him, and itâs great to see him be so effective in getting to his spots. And I really liked him dribbling the ball up and initiating offense in the second half. He already looks pretty comfortable coming off screens. And heâs a real weapon in transition. * Jabari walkerâs rebounding. If Hart embodied “right place at the right time,” Walker certainly is pretty close.
Negatives:
* Too much Grant mid-post ISO, but câest la vie without Ant in the lineup. He did do a much better job in the second half of playing off the catch and attacking as soon as he got the ball, and I think Chauncey did a good job using him as a screener more in the second half. I definitely like that better. * Brogdon PG minutes. He dribbles the air out of the ball and it really stagnates the offense when he handles the ball. There was one stretch where in three consecutive possessions, he dribbled 18, 15, and 13 seconds off the shot clock with everyone standing around watching (and the dribbling wasnât even really doing anything or going towards the rim). I know we basically have to play him PG minutes now that Ant is hurt, but he hasnât been a good PG his entire career and I suspect a lot of these minutes are going to get really ugly. * Aytonâs hands created several very weird looking turnovers (that werenât attributed to him on the stat sheet) where the ball hit him in the hands and bounced away for a turnover. He also doesnât seem to have very good feel in the post for guards coming from behind him and stripping the ball away. * Camara struggled to stay in front of Cole Anthony on defense, but I liked what I saw on offense. He makes the right passes and is always in the right spots at the right time. His handle is actually pretty solid too. He has real connective-piece upside on offense which is really valuable in this league. * Scootâs finishing through traffic. He has a bit of a bad habit of taking off half a step too early when he jumps for layups, which leads to weird angles and being knocked off his angles by contact. A lot of young athletic guards have this problem, and itâs not something that worries me long-term, but just something that I noticed in the present. * Chauncey switching all the guard/guard and guard/forward screens late in the game. I wrote [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/ripcity/comments/11fx2pb/oc_a_statistical_analysis_of_why_chauncey_is_the/) post about it last year, but it REALLY needs to stop because it leads to mismatches all over the court, especially with Scoot in the game with 5 fouls. Instantly gave up 3 postups with Banchero against Scoot. Awful.

Gotta question if our complete lack of offensive or defensive scheme is gonna hurt guysâ development
likpoper
Can we get billups sacked asap. His whole coaching team is just pure ass
rexter2k5
Somehow, we had a chance.
Then Chauncey said “bet, Grant take the rock and iso.”
Edit: Shaedon was solid tonight. I cannot wait to see how he develops this season.

Can we please stop glorifying rookies (even top ten picks) before they actually make it? Scoot has looked horrendous the first two games of the season. I have no doubt heâll turn it around but letâs stop pretending these dudes are instant stars.
iguessineedanaltnow
I wasnât a âFire Chaunceyâ guy before this game, but I am now.
I said it in the game thread, but Scootâs best basketball skill is his court vision and his passing ability. Our offensive schemes under Chauncey donât play into the strengths of our new rookie franchise point guard, and thatâs why heâs been struggling.
For Scoot to succeed and play to the best of his ability we need to be running plays and schemes to get guys open for him to get the ball to. Chaunceyâs system does not allow him to do that, and instead we have guys like Grant and Brogdon running the show which doesnt help the young guys at all.
msChonk123
Jerami Grant getting paid too much money to be this ASS.
Kirbyzenthc
Chauncey Billups sucks and thereâs no other way around it. His âschemeâ and âsystemâ hasnât worked 3 years in as coach. He doesnât call any plays, everything looks stuck in the mud, and thereâs no flows at all to the game. For a defensive coach, we got repeatedly scored on in the paint, couldnât stop it. There is no perimeter d and they always have wide open 3s.
Itâs time to let him go. What more do you want and need to see?
Bieberkinz
Competitive game, really rough stetch mid-way thru the 4th.
Honestly wild to see people turn on Scoot after 2 games. Would love to see instant superstardom, but it seems like he’s just trying to find his pace and the speed of the game.
Shae definitely looks really nice in this starting role, really wished the offense had plays called for him.
Life-Ad4099
fire chauncey please
Lomogasm
Guarantee when Chauncey gets fired he wonât have another job in the NBA.
Sharpe was the only real bright spot this game hopefully he can cook more.
Scoot :/ not the best showing. But I reckon heâll come good still.
ProfessionalOwl691
i get scoot is 19 and all that but he is ALOT less nba ready than advertised. still has tons of potential but will need a ton of work to reach it
KillingTime_ForNow
Yes Scoot is young & should be given some leeway, but dude needs to show at least a flicker of why he’s being given the starting spot. He’s been flatout terrible these first 2 games, he needs to show he is the best option for that spot. And so far he hasn’t. Hope he turns it around, but we have yet to see even a single play that shows he’s ready for this role yet.
Bobsmauncle
Orlando is fiesty. Poor Jerami got the crap kicked out of him all game. Cant wait to see things slow down for Scoot. Both teams played hard, on to the next

What’s the point of the two guys at our starting forward positions? If we’re going full rebuild then go full rebuild. Grant and Thybulle are not the future of this team. Eventually gotta find a way to trade them both and develop younger guys. Sorry, Thybulle isn’t the all defense first-team that he was for one season and Grant is an overpaid third option.
yuyuter123
Solid performance, much better showing than Wednesday. We still have no structure on offense and only marginally more on D. We lost our best iso scorer and most efficient PnR initiator, yet we’re still managing to play semi-respectable basketball. That’s a win. Lots of positives to glean from the game.
Scoot had a much better defensive performance. He’s already ahead of schedule in that regard imo, still a WIP ofc but for a rookie he’s much more aware than you’d expect. If he can control his hands and avoid unnecessary fouls, he could be league average by the end of the season which would be huge for a rookie guard. Offense will need many more reps. Teams have scouted him well and they’re selling out hard to stop the drive. He’s clearly got “it” though. I have no concerns that he’ll figure things out on that end. Reminds me more of a young De’Aaron Fox. Great leapers but their truly elite physical gift is speed and change of pace.
DA with a much improved performance as well. It’s clear he’s still trying to figure out his role like everyone else but he played with a lot of fire and energy. Desperately need his rebounding on both sides of the ball.

Can Ayton get more touches please? He looked really good, especially in the 4th.
