Can’t be TOO disappointed about losing to the champs. Plus there was definitely some improvement with the team that I liked. Kessler getting back to his normal self is promising.

Not too upset about this one tbh, process was much better even if the outcome was still an L. Kessler breaking out of his funk is great to see!

  3. MegaAltarianite

    Kessler heard ya’ll talkin shit.

I missed the first half, but I liked most of what I saw in the second. Hanging with the champs and getting our stars involved more.

    The effort was commendable.

The defense was so much better

Some bad whistles closed the door.
Feels like the starting lineup found some juice it’s really just the little things still killing us

If we don’t loose the first quarter by 10 we probably take the lead

If we hit our free throws.

    If the bench could score.

Too many little mistakes pushed it a little too far.

lets find some consistency. play with that effort the rest of the year and I’m not complaining.

  5. Good to see Kessler get his game back, and Lauri continues to shine

  6. For those pining over Conley, he only had 3 assists tonight and the Timberwolves got blown out by the Hawks.

  7. That was tough but I thought we played fairly well. Shots were not falling. Kessler was good again, guard play was abysmal.

Halfway through the 3rd, our bench had scored 2 field goals. Given we are deeper than a lot of teams and rely on them more, that really killed us.

    The Nuggets are very good.

Also, the refs took us out of the game in the 4th and Hardy should have challenged that charge on Jokic.

at least we got a kessler breakout game. i’m not gonna make any sweeping judgments about this team until were a couple weeks into the season, except that keyonte should be starting ASAP.

  9. DoubtsAndHopes

We have 5-6 guards and all of them are awful except for Keyonte

    GAME NOTES:

This game was a lot more competitive than I thought. Credit to Will Hardy for a good defensive scheme after getting cooked the first half. Murray cooked us the first quarter, and was pretty much a nonfactor the rest of the game. We really limited their stars, and allowed Gordon and their bench to beat us. We finally moved away from that god awful zone (THANK YOU HARDY!!!!)

Walker Kessler has arrived!!! In a game where I thought he would continue to slump (going against the best player in the league), he actually held his own and was able to get going both offensively and defensively. 22 points, 13 rebounds, 9-10 shooting, 1 block. I hope he is able to use this as a catapult for the rest of the season.

Overall big game for our big men. Our starting 3, 4, and 5 combined for 64 points 37 rebounds. Besides those 3, our team didn’t do much outside of THT and Sexton.

Credit to Lauri for being unstoppable. He continues to shoot the 3 really well, 5-13 from 3. 27 points 14 rebounds 5 assists in 38 minutes. He is proving he is a #1 option. I wish that in the final minutes he demands the ball more. Clarkson was shooting too poorly to be handling the ball the majority of our “clutch” time minutes. I’d rather give the ball to Lauri on a switch and see what he can do. His next step is going to be creating for himself against any defender.

John Collins was used more in offensive sets which is what I’ve been begging for. 15 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist 1 steal while shooting the second most field goals on the team. Although he was 7-16, I’m thankful he is getting touches and reps. He did have a bad goaltending call with less than a minute left, but an otherwise great game from him. He also continues his double-double streak, having earned one each game this season.

THT bounced back majorly as well. 16 points, 8 assists to 1(!) turnover. 29 minutes, 7-12 shooting, 2-3 from 3. He didn’t look clunky out there, and looked great. I love how the last two games he has been taking care of the ball. I still think he shouldn’t be our starting PG, but I’m glad he had a good game.

Sexton was our other highlight, 12 points 5-10 shooting, 2-5 from 3. No assists, no rebounds, no steals, no blocks, with just 1 turnover in 17 minutes. Still need to see him be more of a playmaker, but I’m glad his shot is falling.

Clarkson didn’t look good at all. 4 points, 2-10 shooting (one of them was in the last 15 minutes), 0-6 from 3, 0-3 from the free throw line. Buddy couldn’t buy a bucket with a million dollars it was that bad. Although he couldn’t see the rim, he had 6 assists, but had 5 turnovers. A very bad Jordan Clarkson game.

Kelly Olynyk is the soul of this team. Although he didn’t make a field goal, he had 5 assists, 3 steals, 4 rebounds. I think that he needs to get more minutes than just 18, although he was in fould trouble with 4 fouls. I love what he brings to the team.

Dunn, George, and Agbaji combined for 1-13, 1-7 from 3, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Just 3 points, contributed by Keyonte. It is encouraging to see George get the most minutes off the bench with 20, but just a really rough game for those 3. No turnovers though for any of them is a plus.

Dunn only played 6 minutes all game, and seems to be the biggest loser in the PG sweepstakes. We are going from THT to Keyonte with little overlap.

I’m surprised that this game was as close as it was. Jokic did his own thing, but we really limited the two man game, which is crazy considering Murray finished with 18 and 14, and Jokic finished with 27-10-11. It didn’t feel like they beat us, which is somewhat encouraging.

3 +’s of the game: Kessler, THT, moving away from that terrible zone.

3 -‘s of the game: Agbaji/Dunn/George terrible shooting night, Clarkson continues to turn the ball over, interior D gave up 68 points.

    Oh well.

    1-3 on the season.

  11. JC keeps playing like this and his resigning is going to be an even bigger head scratcher. Sure, he was probably the reason for the Clippers win, but he was definitely the main reason we lost tonight.

  12. brig_pudding

    Good effort.

Our guard play is just very bad. We don’t have a point guard – THT and Sexton ain’t it – so everything in the half court is just difficult.

Outside of the big shot vs the Clips, JC has been flat out terrible for basically the entire season.

  13. Kessler breaking out of his slump tonight in a big way is going to be huge going forward. He looked so damn good after the first quarter.

  14. First moral victory of the season.

The chucker trio was mostly okay tonight, minus Clarkson’s shooting and turnovers. I’m glad they remembered that Walker Kessler exists, and is more likely to score amongst the trees than they are.

Free throws were rough. Ref calls at the end of the stretch were rough.

This is one we coulda had if a few things went differently, which is a hell of a lot better than we can say about the Kings and Suns games.

    Onto the next.

Im the first one on the THT hate hypetrain, but today, if it wasnt for him, we wouldnt have compited, nor Kessler would have got this game

  16. Careless_Tear2058

That game had some great moments and gave me a little more faith in this team, but I would like Hardy to make every player shoot 500 free throws next practice 😩.

  17. chris_b_critter

So, how many times per game is John Collins going to get his shot blocked under the rim? He just doesn’t seem to have the ability to rise up and put the ball in on a consistent basis, either after a rebound or backing someone down.

  18. giantcorngames

I still think this Jazz team is much better than people are seeing. Flaws are there sure, but with Collins and Kessler figuring things out, it’s really starting to show how many advantages they have.

    My postgame thoughts:

The defense just needs to be better. Plain & simple. And I do not think the current starting lineup is going to provide that. Particularly the guards.

The THT experience is just one of the most bizarre things I have ever experienced in basketball.
I am not a fan of him starting, but he made much better reads in the 4th tonight and limited turnovers. But every time he does something good, he decides to shoot a 30 footer or a fadeaway contested 2 or recklessly drive to the rim. His decision making makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

Keyonte continues to make great strides and show out. He makes so many great reads, the offense plays better when he is out there, and his court vision is off the charts. His shooting isn’t quite there yet, but I do think it has a lot to do with just finding his spots and getting more comfortable. Because his shooting form is really pretty. His defense on Murray and in general was also really impressive. Hardy gave him more minutes tonight, which is a good step in the right direction.

Lauri is so insanely talented man. So lucky we have him and on a ridiculously good contract rn. The Jazz seemed to make a better effort at getting him the ball tonight. I really hope we capitalize on his prime and can build a contender around him.

That was the Kessler we know and love! He’s going to be fine, does seem like he’s not still fully in shape. I do think the Jazz eventually having a better PG out there with him could help.

Lastly, I’m not really sure Hardy’s offense that has gone away from the PnR is the best strategy. I think we could unlock Kessler & Collins more in the PnR. But we also need a better PG starting with them for that to happen.

Hopefully this next week of games, against non top 4 contender teams will help this team get on the right track!

Honestly, I’m not big enough a fan to follow a subpar team. I struggled at times to watch games last year, and I’m not willing to do it this year.

I am definitely somewhat a fair weather fan I guess, I’ll admit it. A decade ago I wasn’t, but my interest in the NBA as a whole was much bigger then. My interest in the league is at an all time low.

Not sure how much I’ll follow the team this year. Props to y’all that will support religiously this year despite the possibility of being a poor team.
