When people talk about the Charlotte Hornets and their key guys, they focus on LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and Brandon Miller. Maybe after that they mention Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward and young center Mark Williams. But there’s a player that’s being severely overlooked. That would be forward PJ Washington. He really showed out in the team’s preseason game on Sunday against the Thunder. He finished with 31 points in just 24 minutes, shooting 72% from the field in the process. No one could stop him. Yes, OKC played their second unit of guys in this game, but PJ also scored 43 against them in a regular season game last march. He really stepped up in the absence of Bridges last season, and showed that he could take on a much bigger role offensively. On top of that, he’s also a very good, maybe even elite defender. Last season, we saw three guys breakout after already turning 25. Lauri Markkanen made his first all star game at 25, and both Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges took massive leaps forward as 26 year olds. PJ himself is 25 right now, and I think he could be the next guy to take a late leap and emerge as a much better player than people thought. He showed glimpses of it last season, and now is right back to it. Honestly I was kind of shocked that he didn’t sign a sizable contract with another team this offseason, but such is often the fate of restricted free agency. The 3-year, $46 million contract he signed to return to Charlotte could end up looking like an absolute steal. PJ Washington is the Hornets hidden star. Now let’s take a deeper look at why.
Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 12k!!!
