I feel the same way. Seriously what is it? A few regular season games with a single final game that doesn’t count?

I mean I dig it, but I’m as out of it as Bones is.

  2. RockChalk69Hawk

He doesn’t even know the Finals are in June lol

  3. lialialia20

ngl before reading about it i thought it was something super complicated too. after spending 30 seconds reading it im like oh thats very simple actually

  4. Imma give it a chance and watch the games and see how it plays out but I don’t really think I’m gonna be extra interested about it

  5. hotdogflavoredblunt

It’s embarrassing how many people don’t understand something so simple

this is part of why I’m lukewarm about the whole concept. if the players don’t take it any more seriously than any other regular season game, it’s hard for me to care either way

Even just the tiniest bit of extra motivation can be pretty exciting. Like if that Lakers-Clippers OT game the other day also impacted the tournament, it would be a fun additional layer.

Which is why I don’t get when people say nobody cares about it. If you already care at all about the regular season, what’s the harm in adding a little extra incentive on top of that?

This is the play-in 2.0, nobody knows what it is until they see it first.

  9. hostileclowns

And there’s ppl in this sub who tried to telling me these guys are “too competitive” to not care about this tournament lol.

  10. KyrieLS777

Idk, I’m excited for the games. Just adds a lil spice.

  11. I thought the play- in was a money grab but I actually ended up liking it so I’ll give this a chance

  12. T4hunderb0lt

Mixing the games in with other games that don’t count is dumb as hell

  13. prize should be the 61st pick in the draft

edit: or some random earmarked pick like… 45th

  14. the_hammer_poo

It really isn’t that complicated Jesus fuck

  15. RandomPostBot2001

I thought it was Bones’ comment on how to play PG.

Biggest takeaways for me are that all games still count towards the regular season except the championship game. Stats for players and teams also won’t count in the championship game.

So there’s going to be added incentive to win the tourney games (because $$$ + record). The championship game is purely monetary, but it’s +$300k for winning one game (you get $200k for losing). It’s a no-brainer to want to win this.

    Prizes:

    – Lose in the quarterfinals: $50,000
    – Lose in the semifinals: $100,000
    – Lose in the championship: $200,000
    – Win the championship: $500,000

The whole point of cups in all non-American leagues is to provide teams from different leagues to have a chance to win a major trophy and to make things interesting by having teams who wouldn’t naturally play against each other because they come from different higher or lower leagues ( for example the English Cup in English football) or different countries (for example the Champions League)

Therefore, a single-league cup makes no sense. That’s what you have the league championship for, which the NBA already has.

Some of you are trying to make it sound much more complicated than it is.

Nba is reaching. Going to gimmicks the last few years. Here comes expansion to cover revenue losses

  20. herejusttolooksee

This in season tournament is way too early. The drain just started and before I can get into it we have a tournament?

Give us at least 20 games or something.

  21. top-knowledge

the two best teams having to play an extra game is more of a punishment than a reward… less rest, higher injury risk. nba better hope a player doesn’t get hurt in that game

  22. TurbulentJudge1000

They need to either make the preseason just world wide international tournament with a group stage or have $50M prize for an in season tournament on US soil with 74 games a season. Invite the best international teams and play a real tournament.

  23. Farplaner

I thought the tournament is supposed to be mid season. The season barely started lol

  24. We all complain about the mid-season slog.

We all complain about an attempt to spice up the mid-season slog before we even begin to understand it.

  25. PabloSanchezBB

As a soccer fan I find it hilarious that a lot of people are both confused and upset about playing important games in the middle of a season…This will be great new change for basketball.

  26. Commercial_Case_2636

    Ive got a better idea

If you win the preseason tournament you get an automatic 2 seed bump.

Runner up gets a 1 seed bump

Man this fella thinks it’s a flex to say this!

Were I his teammate I would be pissed.
