[Neubeck] Nick Nurse asked about Tyrese Maxey’s bounce back and 22-5-10 line in the second half after a slow start. “It’s not enough” Says he’s too good to play passively, and that they made it a point to manufacture aggression for him

  1. >It’s not enough, he’s too good to have a quiet first half. He’s got to not get into those molds, being more aggressive. I’m not criticizing him, I’m trying to employ him to be more aggressive. He’s too good, beat people off the dribble, too good a shooter, to not take more chances. So, we’ll keep working on that a little bit. But I’m glad he bounced back. Call a few things for him. We ran the same play about 7 straight times. And then we flipped it around. And then we ran the same thing going the other direction. Again, when the ball isn’t finding you, or you’re not as aggressive, we try to manufacture some things, to get him aggressive.

[DiGiovanni] **Nick Nurse on Robert Covington after his first time playing big minutes with the Sixers (this season)**

    >Yeah, I always like the first couple things, do you have the ability, and do you want to do it. And I think he has got that. He’s got some mobility. Athletically, size, strength. Pretty good off the ball stuff. He’s trying really hard so. So it’s good to see, he seems confident. He didn’t make many shots, but at least he stepped into them like he was going to.

Nick Nurse sounds off on one area the Sixers are showing good progress in: offensive rebounds

    >Again a thing that I’m really pleased at, second game in a row where we got 15 offensive rebounds. Those plays are really big, really momentum plays, when they think they got a stop, and you come out to get it, and someone gets a zip up to a face up three. They’re momentum type play, and two games in a row, we’re on the glass.

    **Embiid on Covington:**

    >He did a great job defensively, rebounding, obviously his shot wasn’t there, but he did the right thing. I thought he did a pretty good job on KD.

I was kind of lukewarm on Nurse when we hired him honestly, but I’m all fucking in. I think this team is going to make some real noise this year, especially if we can get another good role player or two

Maxey 3 ball is a little off in the last 2 games. Hope he regains his confidence in it.

  4. It’s true. Idk what happened to Maxey’s 3-ball these last few games either, probably just a slump, but they need to get Maxey going earlier in the game and specifically open from 3. He’s too lethal from downtown to be reserved.

Also lovely to see the birthday boy splash a 3 in KD’s face down the stretch. LFGGGGG 🥳

I feel like the bench lineup with Reed-Cov-Tobi is a nice “big” small ball lineup. They rebound pretty well with those three, and Reed and Cov make things happen on D and in passing lanes.

Feels weird to have a coach with something worthwhile to say. Neat.

I fuckin hated this dude as the raptors coach. Mostly cause he was the only coach who seemed to realize if you just swarm embiid when you’re on defense we had no other plan.

Anyway, he’s the man now and i definitely never compared him to the soyjak meme. Every philly team must have man named nick in a leadership role if they want to win. I don’t make the rules 🤷‍♂️

Someone is gonna get whiplash going from “Come on guys” to “manufacturing aggression”

Lmfao Glenn was such a bum

  9. recleaguesuperhero

Nurse is legit getting the most out of everyone on thus roster.

  10. Manufacture aggression? Like…
