Late mistakes cost Boston Celtics in first loss of the season

The Celtics dropped their first game of the season Monday night in Minnesota, thanks to a monster performance from Anthony Edwards and a lot of late-game mistakes by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Al Horford. John Karalis runs through the game while wondering why Kristaps Porzingis wasn’t used how he was supposed to be used. In end, this could be a good thing, because there were a lot of lessons to be learned.

  1. If You wanna KP to show up, give him the ball. 😂😂 you cant score if you don't have the ball to shoot

  2. You are on point! What happened to Kristaps Porzingis is the lack of ball movement and too much iso by the Js.. The 2 Js need to create for teammates to provide for scoring balance and
to prevent predictability. You made a good point about getting KP shots from the outside to pull out Gorbert. KP scored 42 points against Minnesota last season doing just that. The Wiz won the game. Minnesota's twin towers were both on the floor in that game too boot. Joe needs to do a better job using KPs production…KP seems to be an after thought in recent games. Getting him 7, 9 shots will not adequately space the floor for the other 4. And
we do need better production from the bench. It's early in the season and there is time to improve.

  3. Landon Lakes, where are you? You were all over this in the last game saying their iso and pull ups were overdone. When White comes back we will see if he is the missing ingredient or if the team is simply going to fight this tendency all season again.

  4. They are going to lose games. The issue is how they lose. As in previous years, they still look like they don't have a clue on the offensive end late in games. Unforced turnovers due to a lack of moving the ball and their bodies. Too many times they don't even get a shot off. Fix this issue and banner 18 will be within their reach.

  5. John, Guranteeing a Joe Mazulla Timeout like you did is how you go broke or lose a massive bet. Never gurantee a Joe Mazulla timeout, never.

  6. Celtics bench cost them the game. The starters were trying to make up for their poor bench scoring and making mistakes. The Celtics' gotta rely on their bench to win some games, but the bench was no where to be found.

  7. Wait till we match against 7sixers, Bucks, and Nuggets. More flaws will emerged. White's shoe is too much for PP to fill. We need a reliable bench player or two. A center and a PG who can distribute the ball efficiently. From time to time, that bad habits will occur. Nevertheless, I think this team is better from last year. Onto the next one! Lets go Celtics!

  8. The whole game was a mess all over the court. The refs were terrible all around. And they should have gone to Porzingus towards the end. He was hit from the free throw line all night. And he can hit the three as good as anyone on the team. He had a high chance of hitting something clutch.

  9. Porizingis had nothing to do with this lost. If those 2 volume shooters doesn’t play harder on the defensive end of the court the Celtics are going to lose more games like this. Again, what you should be talking about is why Tatum and Brown take so many shots and miss so many. The problem with you guys is you can’t bring yourself to tell the truth about the volume shooting of Tatum and Brown. As for Edwards, there’s no one on this team other than Holiday and White who could’ve had a chance of stopping Edwards. And they are too small. Tatum or Brown should’ve guarded Edwards but the didn’t because neither one of them can guard him. So, please stop talking about Porzingis If Tatum and Brown don’t pass the basketball to Porziingis he can’t make Buckets. When he had the ball he made shots. Tatum and Brown are just offensive shooters and that’s it. They don’t play Defense

  10. Sorry John but this game was on us. We had the whole team in foul trouble well they key guys and still couldn't overcome that come on. We completely turn into last year as soon and overtime started.

  11. Al hortford can’t shoot anymore, this game no one shot well. Bad decision making. And bad officiating both ways. There was no positive take away this game tbh

  12. The blame for tonight’s loss is Jaylen Brown on holding the ball with 8 secs remaining and going ahead with a step back 3 against the wolves best defender to win the game. What in the world was he thinking? Brown is not the guy who should have the ball in the last couple secs to win the game. MAZULLA needs to use his timeouts and make a play!

  13. this is an example of a loss that happened last year. the win was there for the taking:

    1. we could've attacked Ant when he was in or tried to increase the lead when he was sitting.
    2. we had costly TOVs and couldn't make FTs. we make 1 more FT or make 1 less TOV (with a made basket) and we win this in regulation.
    3. we had multiple possessions in the 4th where we could've called timeout to set up a good play. Mazzula decided not to use the timeout. We end up losing the timeout and getting to OT where the timeouts reset.
    4. we could've taken advantage of KAT having a bad game and fouling out or hacking gobert. We again chose not to.
    5. We could've given the ball to KP when we had problems scoring. i thought we got him so we can overcome tough defenses in crunch time so we can have him at the nail and he can post-up/make the right read.

Yes it's 1 loss but it's 1 loss we didnt have to suffer this early. Yes it's 1 loss that we ended up getting but we still played the starters alot of mins. Yes its just 1 loss which could be the difference between 1st seed or a lower seed. 1 loss is never just 1 loss when there were so many opportunities for us to win it but we just ended up blowing it/not taking advantage.

bad loss. i hope this is a wakeup call to the team and we get back to winning against the sixers. The bench needs to wake up as it another bad performance from them.

  14. Not calling the timeout is fine. This game is not about the last ten minutes it's about all the minutes that preceded them.
We played too fast and we were lazy. We settled and didn't move the ball. This was the team I've been yelling at for five years.

  15. Watched the game then watched nuggets highlights. This team would be goatish if they played close to that. Ill admit Tatum is getting better tho
