This Is Who Draymond Is – Dan Patrick Reacts To The Warriors-Timberwolves Skirmish | 11/15/23
Dan Patrick reacts to the skirmish that occurred at the beginning of the Golden State Warriors-Minnesota Timberwolves game that saw 3 players ejected, including Draymond Green
Pfft the Warriors call was like "And there's Draymond, gently caresses Rudy Gobert's tender shoulders while Rudy maliciously put Klay Thompson in a headlock and threatened his family bla bla bla…"
Draymond is right up there with Bill Lambier as the most unlikable NBA player of all-time. With that said, I think he deserves a pass on this one because I think he was just defending his teammate.
Don’t suspend him at all. He’s not helping the team anyway and he’ll probably do some more dumb shit anyway. He’s the most overrated player in my lifetime and I was born in 1981…
Dray been waiting for this moment since Rudy won his first DPOY in 2018 and entered the conversation with Dray as the best defensive player in the league.
Dan Patrick is a hack. Making fun of Wolves radio "what if GSs station said that?" Well, Dan, here's what GSs TV announcers said: "Draymond gets the short end of the stick." That's way worse. Theyre such cowards they can't call their own players for doing something dangerous. And Steve Kerr just like Dan Patrick here, who has been slamming the Wolves forever (and all MN sports) actually said Drayond shouldn't have been ejected. What planet am I on? I guess you can choke a wolf but not a Laker or a Celtics.
See, here's where I take issue with the way Draymond is covered. The guy is without question an antagonistic figure, he doesnt mind, and sometimes invites a skirmish. People hate him for it, Warriors fans have defended his behavior over the years, it's been all over the map, and it's all to a certain extent true of who he is. That said, Dan's point about 'his game takes a backseat to this stuff because this is who he is' that's where I think you're completely dismissing the defensive mastermind that this guy was, and sometimes still is. The problem isnt that Draymond is so far beyond his prime years that now he HAS to be the 'goon' because its all he is now, no, the problem is that his goon identity is becoming how the current players and media are remembering him by.
Dan mentioned the Rodman comparison. Dennis Rodman was WAY crazier than Draymond is on the floor. He would do this kind of stuff 5-10 times a year… and because of that, and because his skills also eventually diminished, people all of the sudden forgot that Dennis Rodman was one of the greatest defenders and rebounders we've ever seen. Still a hall of famer, still has all his rings, but he isnt viewed as a player the way he was viewed when he was making big defensive stops and flying all over the floor for rebounds and loose balls.
So all this to say, Draymond is the only one who can, maybe not change his narrative, but at least make people take a moment to really analyze who he's been as a player, if he decides to use whatever ability he has left and just go produce night in and night out. Its a very big ask at this stage in his career and life, but again, that's what his option is to see if he can be remembered in different light than a Rodman or an Artest
I think the Warriors need to do some soul searching about finally parting ways with Draymond Green. Here they are at the beginning of the season and they have Draymond at the center of another altercation. The young guys are probably all watching their backs again in the locker room. Draymond is going to single-handedly de-rail Steph's run for the playoffs and a chance at another ring. Time to let Draymond go.

Dan Patrick-Legend!
Dray has so many violent outbursts, including arrests, I honestly don't know he is a safe person for people to be around.

Klay started this.
