  1. The great thing for the pacers is that Tyrese is looking like a player who can be the best player on a championship team. 11+ assists per game was expected but he's scoring at will so far this year. Mathurin's development will be the key for them. It's a league dominated by elite duos and they are hoping Mathurin can be a guy who averages something like 25/5/5 when he's developed fully. He's flashed that ability plenty but he's inconsistent. The Pacers are likely looking at trading for an all star caliber player to pair with those 2 and Turner, when one comes available. They have the deepest team in the league and plenty of picks, so they can put together an attractive trade package. As for the defense, when you're running the fastest offense in the league, you are going to give up a lot more points per game as your opponent will have more possessions as well. They don't even need a top 15 defense if their offense is going to just be the best in the league. They just need to get that defensive rating from 26 to like… 20. Getting that second star (either through Mathurin or a trade) and improving the D marginally will be the steps forward for this team.

  2. last year i would agree that they would have been too good too soon, but you dont go into a year planning to lose to gain as many high draft picks as possible, look at Detroit, plus this year, they have a guy Jarace Walker who is just waiting for the opportunity, and Rick is going to unleash him eventually which will just uplift this team even more, its not a top 5 roster or anything, but they have guys and the front office has been very smart in acquiring guys and draft capital

  3. They just need to play average defense and they could make the Eastern Conference finals as soon as this year.

  4. The Luka comp is not good. The mavs FO made some big swings to put rosters around Luka, but made an impressive amount of wrong moves that squandered the assets and talents. The Pacers haven’t gone all in yet like the Mavs did with the Kristaps trade so they still have a lot of flexibility and assets to work with.

  5. Too good too soon? Can't do anything in free agency? 😂 You can basically pen Siakim in as joining the Pacers this offseason unless they get trigger happy and pick up Markhenen at the deadline. They got assets on top of assets. Their 2 1st round picks haven't even been used yet.

The Pacers don't even need even a middle of the road defense to have playoff success. They will be in almost every game they play. All they have to do is make a few stops down the stretch and if this 11 game sample says anything it's they will continue find success doing this simply bc the other team is gassed.

  6. I agree, Tyrese isnt on Lukas level… He's above Lukas Level… Over the next 10 years everyone will realize this.

  7. I think listing Mathurin amongst the guys with role player ceilings is selling him way short. He still has a lot to prove no doubt but the potential is there to be a real impact player. Pacers are betting somewhat on internal development with guys like Mathurin and Jarace Walker. That said, I 100% think they should be targeting OG Anunoby in the off-season because an impact wing defender like that could help a ton right now.

  8. as a fan im okay with making it to the playoffs and not doing great this is a good team with young players that want to win so i think your wrong on that
