It’s Time: The Detroit Pistons Need To Change Their Starting Lineup

It’s been 12 games into the Detroit Pistons NBA season. They’re on a nine-game losing streak, with the potential for this streak to get out of hand quickly. With that being the reality of the situation, it’s time for Monty Williams to change their starting lineup.

  1. I don't understand how a team can lose this much and see no change in the lineup, this is an NBA team. These are professionals. What is Monty Williams thinking?

  2. What is Monty thinking? Killian is the best at assist to turn over ratio, Cade is the worst!!! So keep the ball in Cades hands? ? Yall are basketball insane lol! Sub killian yall want to lose even worse? Awww Ku they got you on the Cade propaganda wagon now okay bro.

  3. Until Bojan comes back they should start Sasser with ivy or burkes because we dont have a high volume scorer at the 3, 4 or 5 spot. They need to go get trey Murphy off pelicans instead of competing with other teams for a good wing next summer!

  4. It's also time to look seriously at how awful Troy Weaver has been. Outside of a few fairly obvious draft picks, he's done almost nothing to create a roster that makes any sense.

  5. Gee, maybe some vets would help and who would ever sign up for the Gores train to lose???

  6. I liked you talking about the center problem I agree, but let's talk about the guys on the roster. Centers often get injured and some guys want wisemen to get reps in to maybe be something in the future, maybe that's what the rhetoric was with having them. Maybe one of the centers goes down now we have wisemen and bagley. I didn't know wisemen would be THIS bad though and I think fans think this too. He's been VERY bad. So was the problem having wise in the first place or should we have gotten those guys in the off season? I don't know.

  7. What change is supposed to be made here? All their floor spacers have been hurt, and until we get them back, it doesn't matter what lineup you put out there. We don't have floor spacing.

  8. Beef stew shooting 42% on 4.2 attempts from 3. Defenses will start respecting him sooner if we keep playing him.

  9. I’d like to see 3 guard lineups.
Ivey, Hayes, Cade, Stew, Duren or
    Ivey, Burks, Cade, Ausar, Duren.
I’d be willing to run Sasser as well.

I don’t think you can have Hayes and Ausar on the court together the spacing is really bad especially if we don’t have a 3pt shooting center. When Bojan comes back I think the lineup should be Ivey, Cade, Bojan, Ausar, Duren. We’re paying Stew as a backup, Ivey deserves to be in the starting lineup considering what he did last year.

The second half of last season Casey was using Ivey as the lead gaurd/pg, I think he needs to continue that development it’ll help his overall game and this team at the stage there at. Cade is essentially in his second season the core of this team is still in the developmental stage, not competing. As I said before I don’t like how Monty is trying to build Ivey, basketball is a simple game it’s not brain science. In order for someone to learn something they need real reps, I can’t tell a kid how to ride a bike the kid has to get on the bike fall and bust his a** a few times to learn; it’s the same with basketball and anything else in life.

  10. Killian may be everyone’s favorite whipping boy (and rightfully so, he has no business starting for a litany of reasons) but the other guy who needs to be on the bench is Isaiah Stewart. I’ve said it a million times—the guy just simply isn’t remotely skilled enough to be a starter in the NBA. Casual Pistons fans said “hey, if he becomes a 37-38% 3P shooter, he’ll be fine!” Well guys, he’s shooting over 40% from 3 and it’s evidently had a minimal impact on the Pistons’ offense. Why? Simple.

    A) Defenses will simply live with him taking the 3. They’d rather leave him alone and continue to trap Cade when he drives than stick someone out there on Stew and give Cade the extra space. So his much improved 3P shot is still not helping with our spacing.

    B) Stew is incapable of putting the ball on the floor when defenses close out on him. He simply shovels it off to the nearest man which further congests the offense and kills any semblance of spacing.

Furthermore, Stew has zero post game, cannot create his own shot or effectively set up others, and isn’t remotely athletic enough to be a rim runner or a lob threat like Duren. He’s essentially a present-day Al Horford but on a bad team.

I gotta give credit to Ku for actually acknowledging this. 90% of Pistons podcasters/beat writers solely focus on Stew’s improved 3P% and ignore all the problems that arise for the Pistons’ offense when they continue to trot him out there for 32+ min a night.
