I wish American players like Luka and Jokic had the opportunity to play when young like the european players but we teach a different style and coaches etc have a racial preference against this type player.
The secrent ingredient is Lively. Having an athletic 7'1 center that can cover the floor in a couple of steps and times his roll well means Luka (and the entire team) has more opportunities to push the pace.
The answer is just frustrating him until he goes into crybaby mode. Give him lots of really soft fouls that the refs are unlikely to call & watch him melt down. He has to have the weakest mentals of any of the top stars.

If they had some good rim protector in 2022 they would beat GSW and would win the championship,GSW lived in the paint Mavs had no rim protection. Imagine if Luka was in Boston instead of Tatum he'd have 2 rings by now. Tatum had Grant Williams, Timelord, Smart Jaylen Brown, Brogdon, Derrick White, Al Horford and Tatum still couldn't get it done he needed more help lol. If Luka was there instead of Tatum Celtics would be now looking for a 3peat
Luka’s faster pace of play should be contributed to Kyrie. Kyrie was the one that informed Luka he needs to push the pace and he doubled down on that narrative to Kidd. This motivated Luka to spend the offseason taking care of his body and getting in shape. As we all see, Kyrie was right. In fact, Rick Carlisle felt the same way.
I haven't watched a mavs game this season because of my schedule, but if that's true the his giving more effort on defense then they will be in a good spot because basketball is played on both ends of the court
