[Carlin] Which of these four players would you want to see the Sixers pick up the most, and why: Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon, Devon Wright, Alex Caruso?

    Easy. Brogdon.

Our biggest need is another ball handler who can run an offense, create, defend and shoot the 3 ball – in that order. You saw the difference with Batum against the Nets – the only other guy who could playmake for the team. Now imagine if we get another guy who can do that, and our biggest sores get solved for.

Brogdon is an elite roleplayer who does exactly that. He’s also a veteran with playoff experience, plus is available for cheap. OKC 1st, Morris and Kork will probably get him.

  2. Wright. Caruso has become overvalued and unlike Brogdon, Wright is on an expiring contract. Is a long, versatile defender as a guard and can handle the ball.

Gordon Hayward or Luke Kennard. Playmaking, shooting, height to balance Maxey, and reasonably attainable.

Caruso, but only if we can get him for a reasonable price, which I doubt we will. Tyus Jones and Delin Wright are intriguing but I see them more as bench players. Brogdon is not great at defence and is injury prone. If we are dealing with the Blazers I’d rather grab Jerami Grant but I’d still like us to pick up a good 3&D shooting guard to put next to Maxey. Even though Melton is playing well, I’d prefer him to come off the bench.

Caruso easily. Gives us an on ball defender at the level of white or holiday. Can handle ball and make correct decisions with it. Decent 3 pt shooter takes nothing off the table

Brogdon but only if on the cheap. None of those players move the needle.

I’ll take Brogden. Good all around player. Not sold on Caruso and not sure why he is suddenly so over-hyped here.

Tyus might be the best bet Caruso is being overvalued like crazy. Bulls saying they want multiple first round picks for him. Jones will give us a back up pg for maxey and he can run with the bench unit and get shooters open shots

I like Tyus Jones only because he seems like he’d be far less expensive than Caruso at this point and I’ll make an argument about fit as well.

Melton isn’t an amazing starter but he’s coming into his 3 point catch and shoot role, one that Caruso doesn’t really fit offensively. While Carusos defense is definitely better, it looks like Melton has improved as a 3 point shooter and that’s what this offense needs.

Bringing in Caruso moves Melton to the bench with Beverly, and that’s one of our biggest problems- bench offense. Melton may take Bev’s backup PG role but then we waste his catch and shoot ability and Meton is not a great ball handler or creator.

Replacing Pat Bev off the bench as primary backup PG with a real offensively focused backup would be a bigger upgrade than Caruso over Melton as a starter.

  10. Caruso. He’s one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA and fits perfectly as a role player on the other end.

Hold. With Kelly Oubre’s offense coming back, I’m fine with Deanthony Melton and Pat Bev.

To be the best team in the league, Marcus Morris/MoBamba position/role needs to be upgraded. No detail should be overlooked. And no one other than a prospect like Springer should be on the roster if they can’t play in the finals. Against the best and biggest teams we need the option of partnering Paul Reed’s inside play with a 6’10 or taller sharpshooterwho kills dudes with corner 3s. Obviously, Robert Covington is perfectly fine in that role for the regular season. But at 6’7 and 6’8, you want Nick Nurse to have the “OPTION” of going big against say Horford (6’10) and Porzingis (7’2), or Lopez (7’1) and Portis (6’10). I’ve always wanted Bamba to be that guy, but let’s be honest with ourselves.

That said, I would also add Buddy Hield to that list. A volume, knockdown 3pt shooter off the bench.

I think Marcus Morris (17m) <=> Buddy Hield (19m) is a viable option, considering the Pacers weakness up front.

Derrick Rose is wasting his time in Memphis. Could get bought, and we sign him without giving up nothing. Can’t imagine he’d cost more than a 2nd round pick in trade.

  12. Tyus Jones. Expiring and might only cost 1 high second.

anyone as long as pat bev aint runnin the point

  14. dripthing

Caruso, as long as we get him for a reasonable price. Jones is nice too

  15. Philly-lifegoeson

I would say Tyus Jones, partly because Caruso is not that durable

  16. Zumramania

Caruso is considered to be one of the best defenders in the NBA. Since we are 2nd in the offensive rating, but 11th in the defensive rating, I think he could help out. He can also be the backup ball handler and is clutch. I just hope the asking price is not unreasonably high since every team in the NBA could use him. It will be tough if some or our eastern conference rivals get him.

  17. Brogdon is the only will make real diference vs celtics and bucks

  18. Equivalent-Lead-724

Tyus Jones! Look how Memphis played whenever he had to step in for Ja. A ball handler off the bench is so necessary because Pat Bev should NOT get heavy minutes under any circumstances

  19. Tyus Jones is my favorite target, perfect fit for a backup PG that can score, shoot and handle the ball.

Like many things in life, the answer is “it depends.” All of those players are worthwhile options, each at a certain price. Who I want the most is the player who presents the best bang for the (trade) buck. Unfortunately we don’t yet know the price tag for everyone.

I agree with those saying there’s better value in upgrading your bench vs upgrading your starting five. Teams that have thrived in the playoffs recently have had starter-quality 6th and 7th men, and an 8th man that is better than many teams’ 6th or 7th man, if that makes sense.
