[K.C. Johnson] AKME and Billy Donovan’s jobs are likely safe, although Donovan’s staff could be tweaked moving forward

Full quote:

>From management’s roster vision to coaches’ schemes and messaging to players’ execution, there’s plenty of blame to divvy up among the Chicago Bulls.

>The odd part is: Typically in such circumstances, a coach may be on the hot seat or perhaps management could be in trouble. But with Jerry and Michael Reinsdorf’s history of employing Jerry Krause for 18 years and John Paxson for 17 until Paxson initiated his exit plan, not to mention Artūras Karnišovas’ contract extension, Karnišovas has been given the green light to try to fix the current mess.

>Same goes for Billy Donovan, who is liked and respected by both ownership and management and also has multiple years left on his extension. While it has happened in recent situations like Fred Hoiberg and Jim Boylen, the Reinsdorfs typically don’t like paying coaches not to work for them. So Donovan is safe, although it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his staff tweaked moving forward.

>That leaves the burden of change falling on the players. And they know it.

  1. As a fan I don’t feel like being patient so if the only way forward is AKME shuffling the deck then it’s way past the time to do it

So basically don’t expect anything different for years to come. Got it.

The Bulls aren’t trying to win

They don’t wanna win, the front office and coach are babysitting. They can’t get in trouble because winning a championship isn’t expected of them. This franchise is a brand name and tourist attraction not a team in competition. They’ve turned the Chicago Bulls into professional losers.

Yeah KC has said this constantly with how little FO is out there to talk, they appreciate billy getting a brunt of the blame with him out there. Just bleh man

  5. Obi7kenobi

Again… nothing will change as long as Reinsdorf is ownership.

Me thinks time for some reinsdorf sucks advertising

Jesus Christ Bulls FO and Bulls Fans are DELUSIONAL! This is ally Billy’s fault. The Bulls NEED A POINT GUARD (and probably a better PF). But I’m literally telling you a good facilitator would literally save this team. 74% of Vooch’s points come from assist. Zach and Demar aren’t known for find or creating their shots and Coby is a SG, not a PG.

Bulls should literally trade Coby and Pat for Derrick Rose. Rose has been putting up 15 pts and leading the Grizzlies in assist consistently. That’s exactly what the Bulls need. How do you guys not see this!?

  8. Jerry must be a great boss if you can get on his good side. Excellent job security no matter how much you fuck up.

Thanks for further justifying getting rid of live TV

I can’t think of another org where the coach would be allowed to underperform this badly for over a year now and not even have pressure on him. Most other orgs are firing him. Remember, we’re trying to win

  11. Practical-Courage812

At least GarPax would fire shitty head coaches. AKME may actually be worse since they seem to not want to fire Billy D when it is obvious this shit isnt working.

  12. HogMolly69

This is not a serious franchise. The Reinsdorfs are firmly cementing themselves as one of the worst ownerships in professional sports, they might have a legitimate claim to be the worst

  13. Such an unserious organization. It’s bad enough they extended Donovan in secret; his seat should be as hot as anyone’s right now. He’s just not a good coach. And AKME, well, I wouldn’t mind them being gone too although I understand being more hesitant in the case of a GM/President. Really though, anything short of clean house gives me the feeling that we should just expect more of the same for the foreseeable future.

  14. You know, as a white sox fan you hope to get a break from all this bullshit and incompetence over the winter break, but nope

Why would ownership show the same level of loyalty to AKME as Paxson? Like at least Paxson played for the team and Jerry clearly had a long personal relationship with him, especially with the bond over winning championships (even if as a player). Annoyingly stupid for sure since he wasn’t good, but it was at least like.. understandable why Jerry developed a blind spot for him?

They barely even know these clowns.

  16. lordrubbish

Their jobs being safe regardless of performance is likely why they’re not performing. As if tweaking the coaching staff is going to make any fucking difference.

  17. Thank god for league pass bro. So many better-run teams out there to watch. I’m not even invested in them as their fan but it’s nice to watch good teams and how they operate.

Shit sucks here, I’m taking a break.

  18. TheRealMaka

Lol, “tweaked”? We talking about fucking “tweaked”? This shit needs to be demolished with a wrecking ball crane.

  19. I don’t think anyone sane expected anything different tbh.

  20. BlitzinJz

The Detroit and Chicago rivalry will continue for several years….. in the lottery.

  21. Retrokicker13

I’m fine with it. It’s on everybody else to show their disdain for this organization… No matter how cheap tickets get do not support this team.

  22. Reinsdorf must be completely senile. Gave an extension to Billy and AK? What a loser organization. Top to bottom. Billy Donovan is one of the worst coaches in the NBA and this front office is nothing special. No wonder the players quit.

  23. Complex_Sell_9846

We might be the worst team in the league next season and the Spurs have our 2025 1st rounder.

  24. hankbaumbachjr

On my list of things I didn’t like from this off-season was not tweaking Billy’s bench.

I made peace with Donovan coaching, but why can’t we get another modern NBA head coach to play assistant on the bench?

Look across the NBA and you will see a bunch of former HC rocking the assistant chair. We do have NBA class act Mo Cheeks, whom I will always say nice things about if for no other reason than saving that little girl’s national anthem. But when was the last time he was a HC? Was it this century?
