    I think Powell thinks too much, his energy is good but it doesn't translate to a defensive scheme. On the other hand DL2 is thinking protect first observe help options second just a different dynamic

    Mavs should try getting young bigs to experiment on like bamba, wiseman or anyone else just to help on defense specially on the second unit or when lively is on foul trouble

    People are getting a bit too crazy with their ideas. Unfortunately, there is no imminent trade to be done, Maxi wasn't playing great but not having him makes the Mavs depth even thinner. People complain about Powell but the dude is basically on a minimum, I find it a bit irrational to expect that he should be playing a BIG role, DP for the Mavs is like Udonis Haslem was for the Heat and that's it.

    The major issue is that regardless of the Center, if the Mavs are allowing too much rim pressure and points in the paint, it means the perimeter defense is not doing its part, as good as Lively might be, that won't bail the team out. Grant Williams is a good piece and he can size up bigger players, but he isn't as good at navigating screens, which makes him less versatile alongside Luka and Kyrie. The problem is that BEFORE the Kyrie trade, you would have 2 or 3 perimeter defenders, now when you play Luka and Kyrie, you only have one, and that makes the Mavs more vulnerable to paint penetration.

    Another point is that the Mavs are undersized regardless, so even when there is only Luka or only Kyrie – even more without Maxi – the Mavs haven't been able to put 6'7-6'9 wings because most of them are 6'4-6'6 and that's a roster construction issue – what if Thybulle was with the Mavs? So above all else, Mavs have too many guards and they need a big wing defenders – but so does every other team. It doesn't look like O-Max will be filling that role anytime soon and there is also no immediate trade, and even after January 15th, I'm not sure who the Mavs will be able to get. Meanwhile, they will need to figure something out with what they have.

    I’m done with this team 🚮 Luka ain’t no leader. All he does is whine and complain. The offense is stagnant when he runs the offense. It’s crystal clear that the offense runs smoother with Irving. Luka is harden minus the FT efficiency. You hate to see it .

    worst case scenario trade thj+ josh + 1st + 2 second rounders for markkanen and fontecchio

    starting 5:
    ky, luka, grant, lauri,dlive

    bench best case scenario:
    seth, thj/exum ,grant, djj/maxi, markkanen/dlive

    lauri will play center when d live is off the court and play with him in crunch time. basically markkanen will play 34 minutes 18 as a C and 16 as a Pf wile d live will play 30 min as a C. (can we all agree that markkanen would be WAY better both rebounding wise and defensevely than BOTH holmes or powell? if you add the offence too….)
