Chris Webber vs. Kevin Garnett in a do-or-die, buzzer-beating moment needs a deep rewind

It’s 2004, and the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves are in the final seconds of a prolonged, testy battle to determine who advances in the playoffs to face the mighty Los Angeles Lakers. Poetically, the deciding moment — either overtime or game over — comes down to a fascinating, longstanding matchup: Kevin Garnett vs. Chris Webber. To appreciate this moment, we should understand the intertwined history of those two revolutionary players.

  1. KG has one of my favorite "games" of all time. Weren't too many bigs playing like him before he showed up. Prime Big Ticket was so fun to watch.

  2. Great rewinder as always. Does the NCAA not want to let Secret Base get highlights for the Webber timeout game because thatā€™s the rewinder everyone wants to see?

  3. Webber never left the floor after that lob. And he never returned. He showed up in Philly like a 90ā€™ Chevy Blazer with no spare tire and no front bumper.

  4. not just Webber and Garnett, but there was also Shaq, Duncan, Nowitzki, Gasol, Yao Ming, Rasheed and Ben Wallace, Kenyon Martin, and Jermaine O'Neal, this was the greatest era of big men in the NBA

  5. I know you guys donā€™t normally cover Motorsport, but if someone on the team is interested in it Iā€™d love to see something F1. Itā€™d be amazing to see something like Lewis Hamilton passing Timo Glock on the last lap to win the championship and the amazing storytelling of how Felipe Massa won the race just to lose

  6. Sort of feel bad for Webber because he is in the same boat as Charles Barkleyā€¦Webber still doesnā€™t have any excuse though; having a cast like Bibby, Peja and Divacā€¦you should be making it deep into the playoffs even against Shaq and Kobe. You can only blame the superstar when that doesnā€™t happen.

  7. wow, that last shot of kg almost immediately looking around for webber and going to hug him, just so cool

  8. This was a more interesting time where players would score a basket in an intensely difficult defense which made me believe that NBA players are superhuman for such feat. Nowadays, there's no defense. The rules are leaned one sided to the offense that playing the game no longer separates NBA players from casual pickup games.
