i can only imagine hardy was talking to mike at the end saying “why the fuck did we trade you?”

So *that’s* why fans of other teams hated playing against Gobert.

Well we got 24 minutes of good competitive basketball which was honestly more than i expected.

Did not have Fontecchio being a leading scorer on my bingo card. I think he started off the season rusty but he’s adapting to the pace of the game much better compared to where he left off last season.

    GAME NOTES:

We got absolutely slaughtered by KAT. John Collins tried his best, but holy cow KAT just absorbed everything and finished everywhere.

The most impressive player tonight was Fontecchio. He was the highest scorer tonight with 16 points, and had himself a really good first half. He tapered down quite a bit the second half, but still finished the night shooting 6-12, 2-7 from 3 with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. He is looking more confident, and he is embracing this role with Lauri out. Big fan of his development.

Ochai Agbaji also played pretty well. He was our second leading scorer tonight with 13 points on 5-10 shooting, 3-6 from deep with 6 rebounds with half of them coming on the offensive end, 3 assists, and 4 steals. I think this was the most involved I’ve ever seen him on offense. He’s ready to shoot at any time, was running the pick n roll, and driving in. He hit a tough layup over Rudy in the second quarter that was really impressive.

Unfortunately, I think those two were the only impressive players tonight. Now onto the players who I thought played good.

Walker Kessler just missed the cut, going 3-5 tonight, 0-2 from deep, again both 3 balls were deadass. 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks to go with 7 points in 26 minutes. He didn’t match up too well against Rudy, getting dominated on both ends. The 3 blocks were nice though.

Kelly Olynyk also played alright. In his 14 minutes, he was a team high +2, scoring 8 on 3-5 shooting, 2-2 from deep, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, but he did have 2 turnovers and 3 fouls. He was able to take advantage of Naz Reid tonight offensively which was good to see.

    Now onto everybody else…

John Collins struggled offensively, and defensively. His silver lining was nabbing a team high 12 rebounds, but he shot 3-12, 1-4 from 3, and had 4 turnovers with 4 fouls in 28 minutes. He scored just 9 points tonight, and struggled really badly against KAT defensively, and was missing a lot of his shots.

Omer Yurtseven started, shot 1-4 for 2 total points, nabbed 7 boards, had a block, but had 2 turnovers and 3 fouls in 14 minutes. I imagine he no longer starts when Lauri comes back, and will be relegated back down to a 10-12 man.

Keyonte George played terribly. Easily the worst game I’ve seen from him. Mike Conley gave him absolute hell. Keyonte shot an eye-popping 19 times, but only made 4 shots. 4-19. 1-6 from 3. 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers. He played the second most minutes behind Tech and Ochai, and he couldn’t buy a shot. He had a few good passes, some that didn’t end up scoring any points, but good passes nonetheless. It’s important he keeps his confidence up, but damn. What an absolute rough game.

Collin Sexton had a good second quarter, scoring or assisting on 10 straight points to lead us to a 10-0 run to put us up by 12. He shot fairly well, 4-8, 1-2 from 3, 5-5 from the line, but that’s the last good thing he did. 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 turnovers in 23 minutes tonight. He was missing looks, missing reads, and getting lost on defense. He had a good run early in the second quarter as I mentioned, but that is where his production stopped.

THT had a meh game. 3-7 shooting, 1-3 from 3, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 7 points. He was the only other player with a + +/-, with +1 in 19 minutes. It just looked so clunky out there, and game after game he gets tunnel vision and refuses to pass, even when he is smothered. He thinks he has the mismatch on every player who guards him. At least he didn’t turn the ball over, and he had a nice coast-to-coast layup in the third.

Luka Samanic had some non-garbage time minutes. He shot 1-4 in 12 minutes for 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 turnovers. He was open on a decent chunk of his looks, just couldn’t get it to fall.

What a terrible game. I’m losing motivation to watch this team. At least with Lauri we had offense. Back-to-back nights where we scored 90 or less. Dreadful. THe turnovers were brutal, having 19 total compared to Minnesota’s 11. Our team benefits by running in transition, and we only had 5 fastbreak points tonight compared to 25 from Minny. With Clarkson & Lauri out, our offense is borderline non-existant. It only works when everybody is sharing the ball, playing team basketball. It just isn’t happening with this squad. Sexton, THT, and even Keyonte George to an extent stop the ball when they have it.

    6-13.

So…what do y’all think about Nikola Topic?

  7. I’m holding my confidence in the team strong but THT and Sexton do a really good job putting me on a roller coaster
