We are seeing the death of a career right before our eyes. He may come back, and he may even do well. But he’ll never be durable again, and he’ll never get a single cent from an NBA team again.

He’ll disappear from existence like Andrew Bynum when his contract is up

  2. SensibleHumanBeing

Why did it take so long for him to get this

  3. JurgenFlippers

I Hope no one actually shits on him lol. Like it’s clear his body is just kind of falling apart not his fault. It happens to some athletes

  4. zestysnacks

I stand by opinion that he will not see the court again this season

We should’ve kept Harden at this point. At least he plays.

This is a repeat of last season
    Out for Nerve Impingement
    Gets Epidural
Comes back plays a few games
Out again with either a Back or Knee injury
Shutdown for the remainder of the season.

At this point, he needs to stop kidding himself and just retired!!

This sucks. It’s always what could’ve been with this team for its entire existence.

  8. Feel bad for him cause his body is just failing him at this point. Seems like he was finding his way a bit too before he got hurt.

Wonder if he retires this offseason. Don’t know what happens with his contract in that case.

Is it too late to get one of those disabled player exception things

  10. Imagine if Marks played hardball and made Philly give Maxey and Harris instead of the damaged goods we got…Brooklyn probably has championship or we would have been in contention annually and most likely Durant wouldn’t have asked for a trade

Man it actually makes me sad to think that Ben could possibly never touch a court again after this season…I won’t lie I genuinely liked seeing him be more outgoing and at least hustling for this team.

Say what you will about Simmons but it’s never fun to see a former star athlete slowly lose themselves to injuries. All this and he’s also still only 27 years old by the way. This is the age when most players enter their prime. Sadly for Ben his early days in Philly were his prime; he may never reach that level again 😔.

    Fuck back injuries.

I’m guessing he got a cortisone shot which at best can help relieve pain. Usually this is because of pain and trying to find an alternative to surgery. Wishing him the best but as a fan it’s frustrating because he’s clearly got something going on.

  13. Feel for the guy. I honestly think he should just retire at this point

Valuable expiring contract. Guess Mitchell, Trae or maybe even Lamelo asking out would be our best targets

  15. This guy never played and will never play any sort of meaningful role for the Nets.

I have no ill will towards Ben Simmons but the end of his time in Brooklyn cannot come fast enough.

These are never good news. He’s toast and I’m glad we can move on. He’ll be ok this guy got millions of dollars and mansion he put up for sale in LA

If the title had said ‘ben simmons received a dick up his ass and liked it’ I would consider it more pertinent basketball information.

not only is this guy done, but the team is better off without him.

Once they said hip if you didn’t see this coming I’m sorry – he’s never going to be healthy consistently with this back issue the sooner accept this the better

  19. BigRedHobbes

I’m going for back surgery for same issue myself soon and I’m 46. Not a good sign his career will resume. I’ve had family that have had disc surgery to fix pinched nerves and herniated discs in their back as well. Only real solution is a series of metal pins and mesh that separate and support the vertebrae. It means two things, fixes the pain and limits your movement permanently. Only reason he hasn’t had this done yet is that he’s still being paid to be a ‘player’. It’s all false hope and wasted effort.

I’ve had back issues in the past so I know how painful and debilitating it could be. It’s still hard to believe that an NBA star can’t get a handle on this after 3+ years. Something went horribly wrong here. Ben has been with our staff for 2.5 years. I’m putting a good chunk of the blame on our organization – especially after Vaughn’s comments this off-season.

Ben may not have passion for the game but that’s not unique at all in the NBA. An elite athlete losing nearly all his athleticism at 27 is way more unique. And when your back is fucked up, you’d have to be crazy to not do everything possible to avoid it happening again.

For reference – this seems to be where the back stuff started. This is Brett Brown talking about a game in February 2020:

“For those of you who remember in Milwaukee, that was as disturbing a memory as it relates to a player as I can think of,” Brown said. “He’s lying on his back. He’s vomiting, primarily because of pain. Trying to get him … back up to some level of health where he can play basketball again, and that timeline was always an interesting one. . . .The effort that he has put in, given where he was and the significance — he hurt his back in a real way — he is to be praised and applauded in a real way.”

  21. Yea guys I honestly think we’re better off just thinking about the future of this team without him. He’ll probably come back to play half of the season but it won’t be enough and he’ll never be 100%.

Just sad cause a healthy Ben Simmons would help this team so much as we’ve seen early this season with him being around 80%.
