Ben Simmons not close to returning. Season in jeopardy?

The Nets gave a Ben Simmons injury status update over the weekend and it wasn’t amazing news around timelines. Brooklyn said that Simmons had received an epidural on his back and that there would be another update in a couple of weeks.

Fans hoping there would be a return to peak form for Simmons likely have to really pump the brakes now and it does beg the question of what the Nets should do now?

It’s a tough spot considering Simmons’s last few years of performance and his current contract status.

  1. Can't trust Ben anymore. I would let him miss the year then buy him out. The offense flows better without him. 4 shooters and Clax makes the spacing great

  2. This is absolutely crazy. At this point the Nets have to cut their losses. This dude will never be healthy nor reliable. I think everyone has been extremely patient with Ben but he continues to betray that trust and patience. Injuries suck and no one but Ben can speak for how his body is feeling but at this point this is just a disservice to the org and players. I pray he gets healthy one day, just not with the Nets.

  3. Been waiting to have this discussion…

It's tough because Ben Simmons when he's healthy is a top notch defender and playmaker.

But when he's not healthy the recovery time takes a lot longer to heal and it pushes Simmons back a lot of steps….

Brooklyn has been figuring out its new core with Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas while being surrounded by good veteran talent in Dorian Finney Smith Spencer Dinwiddie Dennis Smith Jr. and Royce O Neale.

But the unsustainability factor is still plaguing this team mainly because Ben Simmons has missed a month of action and could miss December as well if his back doesn't improve…

Unfortunately his back didn't heal and epidural injections don't solve the issue and Brooklyn management seriously has to ask itself if it's worth bringing him back and risking further injury totally cratering his value as well…

Brooklyn management should definitely open up discussions leading up to the trade deadline on Ben Simmons and what potential scenarios they can take to possibly get off his contract…

Brooklyn needs to become a fully healthy squad that can create legitimate sustainability instead of continuously playing without all their main players available….

  4. The Pistons could be the best team for Brooklyn to make a trade with concerning Ben Simmons…

The Pistons rebuild is taking a lot longer and Brooklyn could supplement them with some draft picks along with Simmons while taking back some veteran players like Marvin Bagley and Alec Burks and getting young guard Jaden Ivey….

Acquiring Ivey could be a gamble for Brooklyn considering he's in his second year but Brooklyn's coaching staff could really help take his game to another level….

  5. The annual salary that Ben Simmons will receive this season, regardless of how many more games he play, exceed the annual salaries of Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo, Donovan Mitchell, Zion Williamson, Devin Booker, Kyrie Irving, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Ja Morant, Brandon Ingram, True Holiday just to name a few notables that's in his income group. Ben will, more than likely, "earn": his money this season cheering the team on in fashionable attire because of his injury hold outs. He have my sympathy.

  6. How is Sean Marks and the Nets medical team not taking heat for clearing Ben’s physical for the trade? How were no red flags 🚩 raised ?? If so, would Maxey be in Brooklyn??

  7. I'm more curious as to the psychology of why he pushes his workout and rehab videos so hard in the offseason. Who is that aimed at? What point is he trying to make, etc?
