(CelticsFiles) Doc Rivers says he regrets leaving the Boston #Celtics: “I regret it every day. It was the right move for me at the time. Nine years at one place. We were going to rebuild. I look back on that all the time. My life would have been so much smoother if I had stayed where I was at.”

Let’s be honest, he wouldn’t regret it *that* much if he squeaked out a single ring with either the Lob City Clippers or Sixers.

He probably wouldn’t agree to an assistant coaching job but I wouldn’t be mad if he would.

  3. We don’t regret, he isn’t a good coach, never was

Hindsight is 20/20. Had he stayed, he likely would’ve been miserable through the rebuild and that wouldn’t have been a good situation for either party.

brother assumes he’d do as good a job as Brad Stevens did

  6. I’m kinda glad he left. Wouldn’t be where we are today.

I know he ain’t the perfect coach but as someone who grew up watching the big three, always got a soft spot for Doc. Someone who really appreciated the Boston fanbase.

Glad he left cuz that brought us Brad and i hope Brad NEVER leaves

  9. Speaks to the respect he has for the organization. Only basing it on the quote, but this is clearly a “hindsight is 20/20” statement.

Doc wouldn’t be a good fit for a rebuild. He’s in the category of good, not great coaches. My main problem with him is that he lacks the imagination to see talent that isn’t apparent. He took a long time to play Rondo in my opinion and he let Joe Ingles walk because he couldn’t figure out what to do with him.

King of the fourth would never have happened under him.

  11. I have no regrets from him leaving. It was good while it lasted and we’ve all moved on.

  12. I, for one, loved that he wasn’t our coach any longer.

God, the Celtics rebuild would’ve been so bad if we still had Doc instead of hiring Brad Stevens.

If he had never left, then Celtics would’ve never picked up Brad stevens. Thanks Doc!

It was best for both parties that he moved in when he did. His coaching style wears at guys after a while. I’d consider bringing him back during the next rebuild, which hopefully shouldn’t be for some time.

We would’ve been trash if he stayed here & I dunno if we’d have the same draft picks. I got a soft spot for him from that time, but it was right to move on from that era when we did.

I have no bad feelings towards Doc but I’m grateful he left because I love Brad Stevens so much. He is a gem and we are blessed to have him as our GM.
