He’s a catch and shoot 3 pt specialist…. He hasn’t been getting the ball lately. Period

The Knicks have a really well balanced team. Lots of dudes can get you 20.. Theres going to be stretches when some guys shine and others take a back seat.

Grimes plays great defense and his 3 pt shot is quick trigger and silky. He’s a great weapon to have or is a great trade piece

He was great last year as attacking aggressive closeouts. He does none of that this year. JJ Redick was on the latest Lowe Post and hinted that some guys, Grimes specifically, have had their games neutered to the “benefit” of the team offense.

He started off the season being aggressive. Hasn’t been the same since he missed a few games from injury.

  4. >For example, DiVincenzo is a keen relocator, noticing when his defender is handing him a lane and taking advantage of it. Maybe he’ll cut to the basket or flash to the wing. Either way, he opens himself up.

    >The Knicks don’t run plays specifically for Grimes, who could benefit from more activity, but the guard could also create more chances for himself. After all, it’s not like Milwaukee presented much resistance for anyone Tuesday. There were moments against the Bucks when a defender sagged off Grimes and instead of cutting or even meandering, the 23-year-old stood still.

This is the main concern with Grimes that needs to be addressed before we start coming for Thibs/Randle/Brunson.

Grimes’ slump is extremely self-inflicted and our offensive tendencies as a team only exacerbates the issue. However, if Grimes tweaks his approach, he’ll get way more opportunities without the need to force feed him shots. Then Grimes can build off that.

grimes got comfortable trading minutes with IQ—that was a system that made sense to him. IQ was the high energy / off-ball defense guy putting up 3s from half court, and grimes was the sensible lockdown guy taking spot-ups.

+hart, +divo = every guard is battling for minutes and team ID. and grimes has not handled that well. he said it himself—he feels like he’s boxed in, being told to sit in the corner and wait to get the ball (and it never comes).

the reality is that some dudes thrive on competition, and some do not. grimes is frustrated and feels like he lost ground with this squad. thibs is cutthroat—deliver or lose minutes. and he’s losing minutes fast—he’s always gonna have a baseline of 13-15min for his defense alone but, man has to break out of his shell now and show the team what he can do.

mediocre quickness, mediocre handles, great shooter only during practice. I had hopes for him but nope
