Trae has been much better on D since Quin arrived. He’s in better position to stop penetration on the perimeter, uses his hands more actively to deflect or get steals, and takes more charges. That’s about all that we can expect from a 6’ 170 lbs. guard with a 6’ wingspan. He will always get picked on with screens and he will never be able to properly close out on perimeter shooters to get a hand in their face.

Hawks can work with him on the court to have an average defense but they definitely need a better perimeter defender in the rotation as well as the team more intuitive to where to go to on opponent transition opportunities. Hopefully that comes with more experience in Quin’s system because it is god awful now. A forward with a 16% to 18% defensive rebound rate (besides Jalen) would help as well.

I’m glad Trae made the sexy percentile.

It’s just been a weird season. Year one in the Quin era doesn’t have to be a gleaming success and let’s face it we have a lot of issues to address.

At least people won’t say Trae Young is the worst defender in the league or that he foul baits erroneously. While he still draws the foul Embiid and Giannis have more so taken that title from Trae.

Blah blah blah, watch a game and you will see how much Trae Ds up. If stats really mattered, he would get much more respect around the league for all his offense the last 5 years. The man can ball!!!
