I am genuinely starting to think monty signed that contract with the intention of getting fired after year 1 so he could spend the next 7 years afterwards getting paid historic money to coach for one of the other teams that tried to sign him this past summer but he had to turn their offers down despite preferring their rosters, etc because when Tom Gores is throwing that much money at you, you sign where ever Tom says to sign
At this point they should reinstate Casey as HC and demote Monty to assistant while running him down on the broadcasts until he's been shamed into being willing to waive all but this current year of his deal. He needs to be made miserable by the org until he's at the point that he decided the money on the rest of the contract isn't worth the aggravation.
It's not just about saving money to spend on a different coach, it's about not setting a bad precedent where this kind of shameless, "I'mma get paid by the org I think is a joke 1st, then get them to fire me so they gotta pay me to coach for the team I prefer" profiteering behavior, even if you have to shame, humiliate and dog them to the point they consider… let's say "alternatives to living."
