The Utah Jazz Are Statistically Terrible?

In this video we discuss four of the more interesting metric categories of the Utah Jazz as we pass the quarter completion mark of the season. Two of them sound good at first, but with added context things start to get ugly. Can they right their wrongs as the season goes on?

  1. Something I noted in my video that I'm hoping to drop tonight if I'm not too sick is that Kessler and Agbaji have not had a second year leap, if anything it has been a sophomore slump. I think if those two could turn it around, this team will be better. If Kessler doesn't turn it around, I think it's worth trying Omer Yurtseven with John Collins and Lauri Markkanen.

Edit: the turnovers are absolutely worth calling out, and most of the turnovers are live ball turnovers which hurts even more because you're playing a lot more transition defense. If the Jazz fix the turnovers, I think they will win enough games to make the play-in, but as it stands now, they are runnin out of time to fix it

  2. Another great vid! I think Utah will turn things around a bit it will just take time. I'm interested to see how they do when fully healthy across the board

  3. I think your analysis is spot on, and points to a general problem for the team: very poor guard play. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team where the overall guard play is so poor. We have a very strong front court, with several players who can score very well, and several who are extremely good defenders, and all rebound well. But the guards overall can’t seem to run the plays efficiently, can’t or won’t get the frontline the ball in good scoring positions. One of them, George, seems to have the program to develop the ability, but the rest seem unable or unwilling. It’s too bad that the coach can’t develop an offensive system that allows Olynik to be the primary facilitator, because he seems the most capable. But ultimately, maybe the team just needs to suffer through a very bad season while developing George, so that he can eventually be the competent playmaker the team needs in coming years.
