Hey, Cubs fans, Ricketts was never going to pony up even $500 million for Shohei when he can just toss Kyle Hendricks(Ricketts said he was going to pitch in 2024 ASG)bobble heads to complacent fans. Loved hearing KAP, throw shade all over LA for spending and critiquing every single position that the Dodgers will now suffer due to the enormity of the deal. That’s coming from a guy who was rabid that Chicago not send out “the SELL vibe” at trade deadline and trade. Elly and Stroman(when you had a chance to get rid of Stroman…good luck now)in July for a starter and relief because the Cubs rotation was just so dominant. Left see how the Dodgers do in 2024, and see how Cubs and Hendricks do.

David, I am not going to disagree with you on that at all. You can buy 3 really good players for that kind of money. I’m hoping the Cubs get them 3 or 4 good players and spend half that much. A starter, a 3rd baseman, 1st base and a reliable reliever.

Kap, you love quoting sports movies and I think the line from "Moneyball" applies here: They're signing Ohtani for what it says. And it says to any fan of that organization when they sign players to help them win. That they're worth it.
Ohtani and the Dodgers may bust; and ever since news of his second surgery broke, I have been firmly in the "stay away from this guy" crowd.
But, the Cubs need to show to us that they think we're worth it. It is time to spend money. Don't build your roster to compete in the Central; as you said kick their butts! Build a roster that can take the Dodgers down. Go out and get the pieces needed; don't punt seasons away because you're afraid of competing with LA.
