Toronto Raptors Sign Center Jontay Porter!

I will be discussing the latest news and rumors surrounding the Toronto Raptors! Yesterday it was announced that the Toronto Raptors have waived Ron Harper Jr. Shortly after the Raptors announced his replacement and signed Jontay Porter! I will be discussing what Jontay Porter brings to the Raptors and what he does on the offensive side as well as the defensive side.

  1. ugh i really thought waiving Harper Jr. was going to open up a space for a trade to go down. We need to rebuild asap

  2. Another experiment, young, slow, limited mins, knee issues, decent shooter. Rebounds, shot blocks, passing, decision making. Take some load off Poetl. Hopefully help boost center & bench scoring.

Currently both of our point guards are low scoring. Not enough to make up the differences in close or losing causes. The bench is also not contributing significantly to deflect from the main six. Compounded by Trent and Anunoby off their scoring best. Neither Precious or Boucher are true centers.

Last year the Raptors wanted VV to be a sacrifical pg. Sharing and passing more vs scoring. Allowing Scottie to step up and score. VV had a different opinion in his last year. Now we have 2 pgs not scoring. A low scoring bench, a coach sticking to a 10 man lineup. Plus a centre not scoring enough and sg/sf off their scoring best. Few bench players trialed. A big 🥒 🥒 🥒 🥒.

Masai and Bobby have to start shaking the tree. More moves required to improve results. Darko needs more tactical scoring options.

  3. Both Masai Ujiri and Jontay Porter went to and played basketball for the same HS… Nathan Hale HS in Seattle. He suffered multiple injuries early in his college career but he has the talent and skill set to be a nice bench piece for the future.

  4. This is a nothing signing. Raptors are playing poorly and they are struggling. Things do not look like improving anytime soon. We need a big signing, not squad filler.

  5. 905 desperately needs size esp at the center. Have they even won a game? They look terrible every time I watch them. The team is too small

  6. Every time they sign a player who has yet to consistently keep a spot on an NBA team as a rotation player regularly getting minutes I wonder why they virtually never play Thad Young,
an established NBA player whom they already have.

If they simply wanted him to be around to coach younger players then they should have hired him as a coach and opened up some cap space and a position another new player could fill.

Have Young's skills declined that much that quickly?

    I guess it can happen.
    We forget sometimes that
Otto Porter is on the team and just a couple of years ago he was on a championship team, simetimes playing as a starter.

If Porter's ability to contribute has declined quickly then it is possible to imsgine that Young at an older age has also lost the battle to
    old father time.

But what do I know –
I thought Birch was still making a worthwhile contribution in steadying the defense and that the Raptors gave up on
Champagnie too soon given his very young age.
