Need a full rebrand at this point, new logo new name hopefully not the SeaDogs

  2. > I have always believed there is a higher calling in sports — to unify our community, build a lasting legacy over multiple generations, and lift all our neighbors towards a shared sense of prosperity,” Leonsis said. “Today, we deepen that commitment as we enter a phase of rapid expansion in service to our fans, employees, and partners.

    Lol

  3. I strongly encourage anyone with season tickets to call your rep and let them know that you intend to cancel because of this move. That’s the only power we have. I’m going to wait for league expansion when the Supersonics come back and hop to their team. In the meantime I will not be buying any Wizards tickets or merchandise.

This is a travesty and a real stab in the back to all the people who have remained loyal to this dogshit franchise.

  4. While RFK 2.0 gets fan backing because all DC teams should be in DC, Ted pulls this. I really do not like this guy. Every year he climbs closer to Snyder level of hate

  5. ShiftlessElement

If this is a bluff, it’s on the level of George Costanza driving to the Hamptons. Ted is on the highway.

  6. Desperate-Frosting40

As someone who lives in Maryland this is the perfect excuse to officially drop this dogshit organization

  7. p_r_w_4623

“Hey, you guys want to head inside or grab a drink before the ga… (**LOUD AIRPLANE NOISES**).”

“Yeah, let’s grab a dri… (**LOUD AIRPLANE NOISES**).”

“Cool, who’s got the ticke… (**LOUD AIRPLANE NOISES**).”

  8. One thing. We’ve struggled to cultivate a true, dedicated fan base at the games. Any chance that helps that at all?

  9. DonChronleone

Lmao and this man wants to buy the Nats too good luck

  10. reubensandwich

Everyone needs to shame Leonsis and his family every time they see them in public. Fuck this shit. Get them to sell the team. Sorry to all who live there in this sub, but Alexandria sucks to get to. This is awful for DC.

  11. kilopatricko

this is really devastating- as a fan its awash because this team sucks anyways, but anyone who has been to cap one knows its great for its location. downtown DC is going to be ruined by this and that breaks my heart. no more going to the noodle shop before/after games, i guess

  12. HisXlency

    Opposing viewpoint.

Va fans have been going to DC and Md for decades and don’t complain but it’s a big deal to go 15 min across the other side of the river is now an issue for DC/MD fans? Get fukt

For the record I’m opposed to the move. It is what it is. We are a 20 win team so what does it matter at this point?

  13. InGenNateKenny

Marylanders y’all got to ally with the NIMBY’s in Alexandria. It’s your only shot to stop this.

  14. RinSoretoe

Completely sucks for people living in Alexandria too

  15. Megumi-Noda

Pollin would never do something like this after he fought hard to bring the teams back to DC. Shame

  16. knawhatimean

The real kicker is that the team will (hopefully) be out of the rebuild and actually winning by the time this is all built and ready.

  17. Everyone is mad at Ted, which I get, but I’m way more mad at my Governor and State decision makers who approved $2 billion to make a rich man richer. Ted does not need my tax money, but you can only get so mad at him for taking free money and an open site.

  18. Hagdogrobinwood

I’m out, I can’t root for a team in Virginia let alone travel through Virginia without getting pulled over for driving while black.

  19. Rosencats

are Virginians paying for this? Because if so, LOL

  20. logitaunt

worst part is that theyre moving the mystics back to the capital one arena, instead of putting something useful in like housing

if they leave the arena there, that neighborhood is gonna become blighted, no business can survive on wnba traffic alone.

  21. Brozilean

    The Virginia Grand Wizards!

Surely that association would skip this whole thing right?

  22. Notorious_Beebs

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am seeing a lot of Baltimore residents complaining about this, but won’t the relocation actually make getting to the games easier for them? At least on google maps it looks like it shaves 5-10 minutes off the drive

  23. SeaBreezy

Can you please tag this as a misleading headline. There still has to be community conversations and a local assembly vote. Nothing is fully confirmed and the net result of all this could easily be applying enough pressure for Ted (who I agree is a greedy jerk) to get a better deal in DC.

  24. ElectricalCow4

It’s honestly not the move that bothers me the most (but it still bothers me) its the message behind this. Ted asking for hand outs when the Wizards have been dogshit for the majority of his ownership. Fans have stuck by this team through some real bleak times and Ted just ups and leaves bc he wants more public money. The Wizards gotta be worth close to a billion now bc of the NBA boom, so if he wants money, then why doesn’t do us all a favor and just sell the team.

  25. 5AR5AR5AR

I’m from Serbia so I have no idea where the fuck that place is which says enough, this is some bullshit and I’m sorry y’all are going through this.

  26. ReefintheOcean

Great, now away fans can just walk on over from the airport to the stadium lol

  27. gshshskflbrk

I’m 24, I remember some of the MCI days, most of the Verizon Center, and obviously all of COA. It sucks lol there’s no other way to put it. Basketball is a part of DC and it should stay IN DC. I can believe all of the other shit this organization has pulled with bad contracts, shitty drafts, trades, etc but even this seemed far fetched . Feels like this will be the last straw for a somewhat noticeable amount of the fanbase

  28. PseudoTsunami

What was wrong with Capitol One Arena? I haven’t lived in DMV since 1999 so I still consider that the “new” arena.

  29. yogarabbi

Not sure if “Virginia Wizards” has the right optics but that’s just me

  30. Redskins4evaB

As a Virginia guy I always enjoyed going into DC to watch the Wizards. From my first game at mci center watching Jordan put up 50 against the hornets to John wall beating Celtics game 6. This is terrible for Wizards fans

  31. HibachiGrill0

I went to elementary and middle school in Alexandria. Haven’t been back to va since. I couldn’t imagine having the team play there

  32. K3n0B_1_24

Kornheiser had it right this morning.

Put a lock on the arena door tonight and tell Ted to go fuck himself. You wanna play in VA do it TONIGHT fucker.

    He’s a fucking villain

  33. DCmetrosexual1

Virginia Wizards giving off big KKK vibes…

  34. pearlbullets

As someone who lives outside of the DMV in Virginia this is devastating. I look forward to my trips into DC for games. I love the culture, sounds, smells and energy of the District. I have zero interest in visiting a fancy northern Virginia strip mall.

  35. hinleybear13

DC is a wonderful and beautiful city where fans have invested so much money and their time supporting a usually mediocre product on the floor for so long. It’s really just a kick in the face to the fans but also essentially KILLS the downtown area.

Ted owns a lot of that space around COA and he didn’t renew leases for the past few years. He’s the reason why Chinatown has turned into a ghost town. He’s the reason why that area has gotten rougher. And with them leaving, he’s pretty much turned that whole area into an absolute dead zone. It’s frankly just appalling to see someone so greedy run off and leave the city at the drop of some money.

COA was one of the best locations for a basketball team in the country. It’s his fault more people didn’t come because he produced shitty teams year after year and never delivered a winning product that more fans could get behind. Moving to Alexandria won’t magically make new wizards fans appear.

Oh, and my last comment, a fucking marketing campaign about the boundary stones and a hashtag “for the district” is just absolutely villain behavior. Please just GTFO now.

  36. slimbug23

Can we get a new dc team then? Maybe one that wins?

  37. TRES_fresh

I hate this, it’ll be closer to me on the metro but part of the experience of going to the game is walking around DC. What is there to do in Potomac Yard? If it was Arlington at least there would be stuff walking distance.

  38. ExXxtra_P

It’ll be interesting to see if the Association props this move up by suddenly blessing the Wiz with
assets. If the Wiz suddenly start picking somewhere between 1-5 instead of 8-11 all of a sudden we’ll know something is up!
