Piston’s owner Tom Gores on chants that he should sell the team: “If you put aside winning, we’ve made a very big difference in the community”

That’s a direct fucking quote, you can’t make that up. Source:

lol I do t think the fan base wants to hear that right now

The Pistons are a great team if you don’t consider the basketball aspect of the franchise.

  3. boydivision30

For sure this will comfort the basketball fans lol

  4. If you don’t wanna Google it, Gores’s company owns Securus, one of the largest private jail telecommunications companies in the country. So you know all those horror stories of people being bankrupted by trying to talk to their family members in jail? That’s how Tom makes his money!

  5. The Pistons are first and foremost a basketball club before it is a charity lol

  6. This sounds like something out of the Butch Jones “Champions of life” playbook.

This is a comically bad quote. I genuinely feel sorry for Detroit fans. I was very scared the rockets would be in the position they are in now…maybe not 2-26..but still

There isn’t a single good answer to the question

The only positive impact Gores has ever made in Detroit is that he’s fed a lot of Cocaine dealers’ families.

I made a post yesterday the mods removed.

Tom Gore’s wiki page said he’s made $711 million off of owning Pistons (bought the team in 2009).

In the meantime in his 15 year ownership stint, Pistons have a 36% win percentage.

He’s essentially made about $50 mil a year with the team averaging 29 wins per season during the time he’s owned the team.

Or essentially $4.7 mil per game the team has been below the mean over the 15 year span.

Wealth disparities are wild. Goes to show the whole idea a lot of pro-capitalist people have about it being a form of meritocracy is off-base, and that’s an excellent example of it (puts out a mediocre team vs. the Pistons in the two decades before him owning the team winning 3 championships, but he’s makes a larger profit than the previous owner despite being mediocre/bad at his job in term of the quality he’s putting out).

Yeah man. You guys have saved Wingstop a ton of money in free wings. Cheapest sports sponsorship since the Lions went 0-16

Profiting off the prison industrial complex and exploiting prisoners and their families. Yep, making a difference for the worse.

someone tell this dumbass that winning is his job

Uhhhh… Tom. You benefit off of private prisons. You do fuck all for the community, you parasite. Sell the fucking team.

I mean, in this dude’s defense, he’s spending millions of dollars on Detroit on programs he doesn’t actually give a shit about and he figures that should buy him something. Little does he know that only the poor souls who benefit from his charity actually give a shit and they are, by definition, powerless. The people buying tickets and watching games don’t care if you’re making a difference in the community. They want the Pistons to win. Welcome to humanity lol

These owners that only care about profits need to go. I know profit is a must, but the goal should be winning basketball. Sometimes you gotta rebuild and start over, I get all that but this guy clearly is just about making money and that’s ok short term, but over a decade is just wrong. It’s bad for the league.

I worked at his house up in Holmby Hills and the one he has oceanfront in Malibu. Or maybe it’s his daughter’s house in Malibu I don’t remember, but the HH house was fucking insane. A bunch of like Saudi princes and Barry bonds and like Kylie Jenner and shit live in that neighborhood, it’s nuts.

I felt exceedingly poor and also gained a better understanding of how disconnected from reality these people are. Being around that kind of wealth was like being in a black mirror episode or something.

Anyway, this dude doesn’t give a fuck about Detroit lol.
