Pistons Keep Losing, Steph Game Winner and MORE

Hey sports fans coach Nick ear and welcome to the bball Breakdown live show I’m coming at you from uh Cabo I’m on vacation with family but I had to get out here and talk a little basketball as always joined by Andrew combo salop out here uh combo what’s going on my man

Love the background my man how are you uh I’m good I’m good yeah I mean check this out this is uh an insane house that where I’m staying at that my uh sister-in-law found got good thank you to her uh for last second coming up with

This whole plan so here we are the bball the bball breakdown Mansion yeah it’s it’s really amazing I don’t know how they found it like a week ago and somehow was still available so here we are and uh I’m yeah I’m enjoying uh some some rest and relaxation however I’m

Also watching some games believe it or not where they got a nice beautiful big screen TV and we were watching uh we woke the house up when watching the end of the Warriors game uh that where Seth hits that uh the game winner three did you see that shot yes I did

Um you know you know it’s a high arc when it goes it disappears off the top of the frame of the camera and uh by the way I I don’t know if you guys do this or when you’re training when you’re working on your jump shot but we I spend

A lot of time varying The Arc of the shot I want the highest Arc possible the lowest Arc possible and then everything in between most great Shooters could adjust their Arc within a couple degrees on command and um that’s what Steph is able to do right he could he could shoot

With any Arc he wants with the kind of control he needs to be able to make shots so uh it was um it’s an impressive display of uh of shooting without question so what when you’re working with a player what you like signal them shoot this a little bit lower shoot this

A little bit higher yeah and I want you know by the way I don’t want to give away all the secrets but uh yeah we’ll do what we the variability which would be we’ll spend five minutes saying okay I want you to shoot the highest Arc

Possible now a lot of times guys who don’t shoot high enough Arc let’s just say which is kind of rare usually people shoot too much Arc uh actually I’ll flip it the other way I’ll say okay I want you to shoot the lowest Arc possible and

If you can picture that it should be a laser at the rim no chance of going in it should just hit the front of the rim and bounce right back to you right right but invariably when I cue them with that uh with that the lowest Arc possible

They end up shooting exactly the most optimal Arc for them so it’s really fascinating to see that right like all of a sudden we’re tapping into like where they need to go whereas other coaches might to struggle forever to figure out how to get into to shoot

Lower Arc and uh remember the higher Arc obviously the bigger the target is and the way down but at some point you lose control it’s too hard control when it gets that as high as I’ve seen some guys shooting it I mean heck the air conditioning could affect that shot if

It gets that high so uh it’s always a really great um technique to be able to train your Shooters to be able to adjust their arc on command uh again because the greatest Shooters have that kind of control you know what I mean yes sir yes sir that is interesting maybe I’ll work

On that in the gym low Arc high arc yeah yeah and by the way it’s a little bit like how I describe it um you know when you’re on on the on Deck Circle playing baseball we probably already to talk about two two bats two bats are the

Weighted bat yeah the weighted bat and then you how does that bat feel once you take the weight off right it’s the same idea here where we disrupt some of the normal methods of shooting that you would have and then we said okay now go back and shoot for shoot 10 shots normal

Don’t think about it and they’re like oh they it just loosens things up it helps them find an optimal Rhythm so when I was a kid I used to wear like the wrist weights to work on my handle you know wrist weights interesting I’ve heard of ankle weights but I don’t think I’ve

Heard of wrist weights and that help you I think so yeah cuz you take them off like I would do like half the workout with the weights and then take it off for the second half with sorry first half with the weights second half take

It off and you felt super fast you know like the weighted back thing right well I’m thinking about maybe you can get weights on your fingers well they have the I’ve used the gloves as well they have I think power hands I’ve used those as well for sure you know whatever it

Takes like I’m I’m not a huge fan of like props per se of using other things that you don’t normally use in a game but you know listen if if catching tennis ball or wearing the gloves whatever you know if you can show me a kid who can really handle the ball now

Because of it then great I go more power to you yeah I’m with you on the props I think it’s nice to like throw in some things to make you a little bit more uncomfortable at times but obviously I don’t think props should be like your

Whole workout you know that be a little ridiculous yeah uh for sure so you know don’t forget if you want to ask a question and get have us answer it and give you a lot of hype and love and really just help us keep this show going

Obviously the Super Chat on YouTube is the way to do it um every once well maybe something in there in the regular comments we might disre respond to as well so you never know but certainly uh that would really help us um we got a nice big crowd here

Today it’s really nice on a Friday maybe this is Friday we should be doing it so coach Nick yeah Fridays are good so coach Nick um let me segue us into the conversation we wanted to have by a tweet I had about uh what’s today’s date today is

1222 okay two days ago so my tweet was Kate is a special player on a very bad team okay that’s on a hot take and by the way if you’re listening to this on the podcast and you can’t see I am on vacation uh and I have this

Beautiful ocean behind me so you might hear rolling waves in the background I thought that’d be a nice little ASMR for everybody um but let’s talk about Kade for a minute so I watched a chunk of the game last night and I gotta be honest with you I haven’t seen much Detroit

This year I haven’t seen much the Utah Jazz either honestly it’s you know it’s tough when I have to do these deep dives into specific teams and you know before you know what a week has gone by and I haven’t watched you know five teams um

But I had my first impressions were that you know the game starts out and Kade is trying to distribute and be like that point forward role which I think you and I both really really love to see guys who have some size like that and uh and

Play in the moment you know they’re finding the best shot possible and then at some point he’s like F this this isn’t working and it wasn’t working that great they were down six eight points whatever it was and uh then he goes he goes ISO a little bit he goes gets

Really aggressive and you know what he was scoring that way so he didn’t shoot a lot and all of a sudden he focuses on it and he’s got like 15 points in 16 minutes played right he’s that good that he can do that even on this team so I

Agree I think that it’s a real incompetence issue across the whole board I mean what what are the biggest issues you think that the Detroit Pistons need to fix spacing around Cade I mean he had the same issue in Oklahoma State he’s one of those players like

Luca not saying he’s as good as Luca but he’s that Arc Type of player that needs spacing and defense around him he actually will probably be a better Defender than Luca in the long run like I think he could be a really good Defender a really smart Defender uh Luca

Is actually approving on that side as well but that guy needs gravity right he needs spacing around him to operate also another thing was like this guy is a special player if you look back uh Team USA scrimmages and he wasn’t on the Team USA team he was on the team team

Scrimmaging against them he looked like the best player on the court this summer at times and that was a team with Anthony Edwards and Tyrese halberton and Jaylen Brunson that he was playing against so this guy’s a special player in a very bad situation yeah and and you

Can see it uh it’s really frustrating to watch just because you know um NBA players are awesome right um they really are everyone is extremely skilled but then there are teams that are bad that don’t have a good winning records and you realize after watching a few minutes

Of that that they’ll have guys that just don’t finish that well right so he’ll set the guy up and then they won’t they’ll blow the shot that would be open and again with better players they would make it right and then the scores are closer and then they actually have

Better players on the other side too so the whole thing is weird I don’t like how they’re coached necessarily either um and I you know people I mentioned that on Twitter yesterday and people were trying to light up Monty as well a little bit a little bit and it’s a tough

Situation I don’t think he wanted the job um right I think they ended up having to just throw back up a couple of brink trucks to get him to do it um which isn’t really the best motivation right as a coach I don’t know if like

Okay they paid me so much money I’m just gonna have to do it now right I don’t know if that’s the best mindset to have coming into the job yeah I think coaching fit is important he seems like one of those guys that would do better with a contending team than a rebuilding

Team just really quickly with boan back which is obviously a big deal because he’s a really good shooter um let’s just throw out the last five games uh for Cunningham because someone was mentioning this on Twitter too in 34 minutes he’s averaging 24 a game shooting 48% from the field not well

From three but um 6.4 assists so like there’s a I think he’s perked up a bit on that and then Boon’s been lighting it up he’s over 44% from three um and scoring 21 a game so I was excited at some point when they traded for buan

Because it felt like they wanted to turn the corner right and start to win versus getting some high draft picks and doing all that whole thing um but I mean I don’t think anybody would have predicted that it would have fallen this flat um and there’s rotational stuff as well you

Know the the iy thing is interesting right because he was a starter alongside Cade uh they brought in uh Thompson and I guess that’s where I think that’s where Ivy lost his starting position to when you’re looking at the lineups um and it wasn’t working I guess you know

Coach is free to do what he needs to do in the beginning to kind of Tinker a little bit and get put his own stamp on stuff but um I don’t know I it’s a little bit confusing here to F this out now meanwhile let me look at the the box

I think he actually I mean I think they could play him and take some ailan Hayes minutes away they don’t I don’t think assar could play like more like a wing uh yeah I I hear you you’re right there’s no reason why they all can’t play together at this point especially

Because the season’s over for them right you know it it’s been over probably after the 10th or 12th straight loss you know what I mean like this just they’re not making the playoffs they’re not gonna you know there’s nothing you know that that’s the interesting thing to do

We were talking about this also with football it’s like what happens if you’re on a football team and you know an injury happens here A B A couple bad calls you lose like early so now all a sudden your your record’s like three in eight right and you have nine more games

To play knowing you’re not gonna make the playoffs you know what I mean that’s tough to do and you know multiply that by in order of magnitude here because they have so many more games left to play uh I I wonder how they’re going to make this work well I think they’re at

The point where they just have to figure out who they want to move forward with with the players they have right now and try develop systems around those guys right like who do we think we’re going to move forward with I mean maybe Ivy is a guy they don’t feel they’re gonna move

Forward with but you got to at least give him a chance right um he had a solid year last year he was highly touted coming out of college I think he needs more opportunity I don’t know if Monty wanted to lead into defense with Killian Hayes but Ivy has some tools

Where he could be just as good of a Defender as Killian and he’s definitely a better offensive player than Killian so yeah that’s yeah yeah go ahead that’s a mystery I mean everybody thinks that’s a mystery nobody really knows why that’s happening yeah and it’s weird because there’s been some weird inpersonal stuff

I feel like with Monty and some other players we saw this with DeAndre Aiden who who um if I’m not mistaken they had issues at the end of the year before and then when they came in like I think Aiden correct me if I’m wrong Aiden had

Even was quoted as saying like I I haven’t talked to him directly oneon-one you know all offseason all into training camp um and it’s just weird I don’t know what that why that would happen it seems like Monty I would think be the guy who

Would sit down and and try and iron some things out and I feel like it’s another player I’m forgetting maybe somebody in the comments will tell me that it happened to as well Aiden feels like and I always have to preface this by saying that I don’t know personally he seems

Like such a nice guy that’s kind of aloof that’s not like uh super hungry because I think he was getting into it with like Booker and KD as well right like and on the court he doesn’t seem to be aggressive at times um when it comes to rebounding the basketball hustling um

But we’ve seen Aon in playoff situations play really well but part of him doesn’t seem to have that grit I don’t know if it’s going that well in Portland for him either so I don’t know I don’t know but Monty has had issues with players in the

Past but everybody always speaks to him being a High character guy wherever he goes yeah yeah and um yeah you know it’s funny I had this interaction this morning with a really old school coach who was complaining about oh the soft players these this you know in this era

Whatever that that’s BS well I’ll tell you why it’s BS and and he’s basically I said you know I’ll show you books from the 1920s of coaches complaining about players who aren’t playing hard and they’re not listening all this stuff right it’s it’s it’s the same thing we

Hear every generation from every every player and his reaction was so negative to that like I he’s like that doesn’t prove anything and then and then proceeded to treat me like I’m sure he’s treated his players in an effort to like somehow make them quote unquote tough

And I you know sometimes it’s hard you try and explain that to people how um you know what what you’re doing is not as optimal as other ways and if you are a coach who is frustrated by that then you’re just GNA be frustrated your entire career right and I think what and

I I think you’ll respond to this is that so much of the uh coaching for so long was about how the coach has to trust that the player will do what he’s telling him to do right that’s how you earn playing time and all that stuff

When in reality the player has to trust that the coach has their best interest in mind that’s what gets the Buy in and if you don’t want to if you reject that if you don’t want to understand that you don’t want to believe that then you will

Just be a frustrated coach your entire career and you’ll always be complaining that the the players don’t buy in and they’re not listening to me you know what I mean and if we just did that we’d be winning more did you see the Notre Dame coach basketball coach who was on

The went wal the other day complaining about his players I did not this is what how it started and let me just explain this to anybody who’s coaching and listen I know who am I I haven’t coached a D1 team I haven’t coached the NBA team

I’ve coached a high school team but I gotta tell you right now if after a really tough loss and so Notre Dame lost to Citadel right Army I think it’s Army right uh you know they they never should get anywhere near losing they lost I think by 20 or something right so he

Goes and now he tried to to temper the comments by saying this is on me too you know dot dot dot but they’re not they don’t play hard and if you’re not going to play hard you’re going to rot on the bench and I’m going to find somebody

Else and bring him in here and rep place you and it’s like and I’m sure and he’s about my age it looks like so he’s got that same that’s the danger of my age is that we all we were raised like this with that kind of coaching the bottom

Line though is does he not think his players are going to see this press conference and do you think that they’re going to respond well to that being called out if you want to do that in pra in in a locker room that’s one thing but when you’re going to publicly try and

Embarrass your team are you hoping that they’re going to then trust you more like that’s the difference right why would they trust you when they think that you’re just going to try and embarrass them in public like that that is just a terrible look and uh and I

Don’t think he’ll ever understand that maybe he will but I I would hope at some point he’ll have some self-reflection and realize how suboptimal that is does that make sense to you I do think it makes sense that I don’t think it’s the best way to coach a team I would also

Say that it could build those players up for their next situation that’s better being through something like that like my college coach was super like it was like it was like a dictatorship right it was everything you could think of uh things he said in practice I can’t

Even repeat right now but it honestly it did make me for the future when I was in better situations and where coaches were doing things more like when I got overseas it was more about like let’s cater to the players because they’re Pros now and they could kind of take

Care of themselves and let’s see how they’re feeling and once I got to there if everything felt so much e easier you know well it’s interesting because a lot of the Euro coaches have these reputations of being absolute screamers and just horrible stuff that I you see

In the in the huddles too but I’m glad that you didn’t get that or didn’t feel that way yeah I mean you you could get that during the game but if they feel like oh maybe this guy’s older and he shouldn’t practice today it’s more individualized right like the younger

Like the younger guys are always going to practice no matter what right but maybe we could cater to like the star guys or the guys who are a little bit older it’s more individualized where in college it was more like everybody’s getting this even though we know who the

Best player is and all that and maybe he’s getting hidden preferential treatment but it was more in your face like okay you know these guys of the 18 year olds they’re going to practice every day they’re going to work hard but maybe there’s a 40y old on the team that

Can’t practice hard every practice you know we’re going to sit them out we’re GNA let him Ice’s knees um that was the difference playing overseas and but in yes in games it was crazy overseas it was very um results based at times and not process based like coach if the team

Misses a shot the coach is going crazy right right and if they make the shot you know everything’s okay well here’s the dumb thing about the coaches who are like that and they go crazy is that you know I think you and I both understand

How important it is when to be able to make three-point shots you have to have a flow you have to have a rhythm you have to be relaxed and if you’re going to be detonating and putting you know in in the head space putting players in like a tense overly tense and

Unnecessarily tense head space you’re GNA you could conceivably affect the shooting and if you’re going to intentionally affect the SHO of your own team you’re going to lose games and then you get fired so um you know if you understood properly how what the goal of

A coach was and I think I’ve talked about this a lot and I always ask this to coaches when I when I meet with them and discuss games whatever I always say like what is the goal of a coach in the game when they’re coaching the game it’s

A little bit open-ended it’s not the great best question but the answer should be something along the lines of the coach’s goal is to get their players to play as well as they possibly can and if you understood what happens chemically in the brain in the face of

Anger and disgust then you would never use those methods in a game because you would not get them to play their absolute best and uh I think more and more coaches are realizing this and again passion is a lot different than anger and disgust and so that’s what I

Think is missing in a lot of these so there’s no coaching training right you got you get coached and then you jump into the coaching ranks and then you watch other people and you somehow figure some things out you know overseas they have coaching schools for certain

Countries that you have to go to before you coach I would love to see these um so we’ll have to talk more about that because I’m gonna have to go there and uh and do a do a segment on that yeah yeah no you have to get the certained

Certification to uh be a coach huh okay well I wish they had that here but then again I also would want to make sure what the curriculum is because obviously if if they’re not teaching the right stuff then that doesn’t help but uh you know yeah I it’s it’s more difficult

Here because it’s such a huge country like if you think about it like like countries of the size States right over there so they could kind of like the basketball Community is so small they can make uh things like this happen for sure well let’s see here I

Just want to kind of quickly look at uh Trey Trey Jones’s uh uh stats right now people are talking a little bit about um the Spurs I again Spurs are another team that that people are upset wem’s not getting touches he’s not playing um I

Don’t want to speak out of turn have you seen this first play at all yeah he get touches I mean they got soan playing the point which is somewhat of an issue because he’s not a four point guard but I think they’re trying to develop him in

Terms of his ball handling skills not necessarily for him to be a point guard but they want him to have a better handle like in second side situations moving forward when they do get a real point guard that they want to move forward with but they do have solid

Point guards I I think they don’t have a guy yet that they wna um a young player that they want to develop with wemi so they’re like okay let’s just develop soan uh yeah I mean I I I I suppose it doesn’t really again it doesn’t matter

For them either what the winning winning loss losing is they they’ll be able to uh they’ll develop something and maybe they’ll get something out of it maybe they won’t you know there is that risk of you know changing the culture around the team we saw that a little bit with

The Sixers right and I everyone was worried about it for so long but then as soon as they turned it on right and they brought New Management in and it brought a couple of better players in you they started winning and but but then again you know was the culture changed at all

There was three reasons there I mean three reasons why the Sixers the biggest reasons why the Sixers get better outside of Joel embiid it’s Nick nurse maximized that offense Maxi took a leap and Harden got out of there after that situation was crazy so it was kind of like a perfect

Storm of those three things I mean Nick Nur totally changed the offense around and it’s looked really nice but but let’s just throw it out there they were fourth in offensive rating last year so let’s not like we don’t we can’t we don’t have to light you know dock up

That much for I didn’t say I I didn’t mention doc you did all right but you know they were really Elite anyway offensively right like but it is interesting that they can continue to be that way it’s better flow now though it’s better flow yeah you know it’s better it is better

But uh and you know they went from fourth to first right so it’s like all right you know but and and but losing Harden than going first is obviously something too well and also I I didn’t mean Harden in the sense of him as a

Player I meant him in the sense of the situation that was around that right that cloud at the end not really like like he was good especially first half I mean he was great for them he Maxim he allowed Joel embiid in a lot of ways

Even though he’s playing like a MVP this year to be an MVP yeah and and it’s unclear like I think it’s been a lot less dramatic uh around there I think that 100% you know I know that Tobias stuff is really frustrating for me um because he’s just it’s just weird some sometimes

There are guys that just they’re winning it’s doing if everything is working fine but like you know they’re not they’re not going to benefit from from some of that and he’s been really struggling recently having had an amazing start to his season it was really really good and

He was the guy they needed so it could just be a couple games get him out of that funk uh or they’re gonna trade him and uh we’ll see what that happens because that might be something and by the way Tobias is the guy who could really help a good team without question

Uh and be a piece they’re looking for I don’t think they want to trade him though I mean it just started in the last couple days you know you know how Philly fans can be so um yeah but he’s kind of like he’s like the right fit for

Uh that team in terms of like our type of player oh you know fair enough and then euro guer is out here on the comments talking about how uh Nick Nur is a better Coach than Doc Rivers uh and we don’t need to be shy about it I mean

I think that’s fair I think uh doc has I’ve had issues with Doc’s coaching for a long time it’s not it’s not a secret so uh yeah there’s some things that are that he’s better at for sure so coach Nick John Morant do you think he could lead this team to the

Plins no no well wait let me look at the schedule right now let me look at at the at the uh sings here it’s it’s looking a little different these last two games coach Nick I saw the first one did he play another one that I missed yeah he

Returned to Memphis he returned to Memphis oh wow so he hits a gamewinner the first game back which I saw um and I mean gosh you know what it’s amazing that he could come in like that I mean I guess he’s probably playing pickup like like something to keep no allowed him to

Practice oh he was oh he was practicing okay so and even then they’re not practicing full five on five probably right I don’t maybe a little bit a little bit but well he could I mean the younger guys usually uh get some wreck in so maybe he was yeah I mean yeah but

It wouldn’t have been like a good five on five so he’s you know somehow he’s getting up and down but let me you know what you know what’s underrated about J like I remember seeing videos during the pandemic of him like working on his game like in the mud where he’s from like

With the whole Community with him like that guy’s a gym rat on the low I believe um not like like he’s super talented but you could see the craft that he has is something that has to be worked out like he got leftand finishes rightand finishes off leg like he he is

Not only a generational Talent it looks like he has generational work ethic as well with the craft that he plays with oh absolutely I mean I I’ve responded to his games from day one the only thing I’m worried about is how he’s so reckless getting up in the air that he’s

Going to land on some people and get hurt but uh the you know there’s very few guys I it’s not Michael Jordan similarities in terms of movement pattern the way he moves but it’s it’s as explosive the difference between his explosion and everybody else’s is along

The same lines it’s like in an Anthony because Anthony Edwards moves more like Jordan did uh you know what’s um Mor is um is thinner and and sort of lankier and but but no less explosive smaller so so here’s the thing let’s do some math I

I I always have to try and do math live but we can try so right now in the standings they they’ve won uh under 30% of their games they’re eight and 19 so that means they played 27 games so let’s see here if uh 82 minus 27 is they have

55 games left okay now to get to the playin area they’re gonna have to get to a little bit probably 43 wins let’s call it that 43 wins so that means they need to uh and they’ve already won eight so they got to win what’s that what did they just say 43 wins

Um so 33 35 they got to win 35 games out of the last 55 and that means 35 divided by 55 they have to win 64% of their games I think having won less than 30 they have to way more than double the Curr you know why I think they could do

It obviously the big reason they got job back but second reason they’re gonna have more of a sense of urgency than maybe some of the other teams they’re playing against I mean I’ll go out in the limb and say he he should win an MVP

If they do if they do what make the play-ins they I mean if they make the playoffs if they actually get to the playoffs I would I would say can you can you win MVP after missing 25 games right they put that in right so I don’t think

I think it’s he he already lost that uh which is too bad I would rally to change the rule for one season that’d be a I mean that’d be a that’d be a fun story I’ll tell you that yeah and then by the way it’s reminiscent of Michael Jordan

When he was injured for 64 games and then came back after in his uh third second year I think it’s the second year I was alive then uh and then LED them to the playoffs so that they could lose in five against the bucks but um it was pretty amazing and

Uh they had a minute restriction on him and he was still scoring like I just did a video on mbid scoring a point a minute or a little bit more he was scoring I gotta look at it up if I can if I have

Time uh it was it was the same if not more it was insane um so but yeah MJ was doing it on a lot of tough twos too like hanging in the air mid range yeah he was it was crazy for sure for sure uh I don’t even know if we want

To bring it I know you got to go in about six minutes but um I don’t even know if we want to bring it up I I I’ve been having a a 24-h hour battle on Twitter about the MB fing stuff did a video on it a few weeks ago then did a

Video on him scoring overall um people are having a hard time understanding this it’s really kind of frustrating you know they don’t think that you know listen the the Harden stuff when he’ gather without the both hands in the ball and hook and all that stuff I get

It and they Chang the rules to eliminate the shooting file part of that but this is not what MB is doing right and it’s frustrating that people are going to rail against this because if you want to try and Outlaw what he’s doing rule wise then you’re not gonna have any files

There’s no shoot there won’t be any shooting files he’s just pulling up for 14 Footers and the damn uh Defenders have their hands in his face it’s like what are you supposed to do and and people want to say he’s not really shooting it I’m like what are you

Talking about he is it’s a it’s a 14 foot pull-up you know whether he does a little quicker than than others why we can’t we can’t legislate against quick pull-ups that’s ridiculous so what’s your biggest beef about it I have that’s the problem so the beef I have is that

People don’t understand this and then it gets worse because I try and explain it very patiently and uh and then I have people who are you know disrespectful on Twitter and so I’ll just kind of respond mirroring that a little bit and then all of a sudden it’s like oh I’m the one

Disrespectful I’m the one know at all whatever I’m like listen if you want to come and have a discussion with this and have a reason whatever debate great but if you’re going to come in there all hot and uh and and like that then what do you expect and then then try and

Gaslight me into saying that I’m the one being disrespectful it’s kind of weird but but hey that’s what Twitter is these days what’s the definition of gas light so basically um I will tell you that you are not let’s say you just uh the worst version of it be you’re driving the car

And I’ll be trying to convince you that you’re not driving the car right now I’m driving the car what I’m behind the wheel no no I’m driving the car you don’t know what you’re talking about you’re crazy I have the wheel I’m driving meanwhile while you’re in the

car sorry I didn’t see you’re in the driver’s seat and you’re driving that’s the worst version of gaslighting but it’s basically like trying to convince you of something that’s completely false that you’re doing that you’re not doing it’s it’s on movie from way back in the day yeah that might be

Great micro content right there yeah right the well can we beep out the f word can your AI beep out the f wordss I think I think Instagram does it for you wow that’s nice uh at times at times not all the time they don’t catch it okay

Okay so Euro guers in here talking about it’s foul baiting you know you can argue that like playing offense is foul baiting right like getting a foul is part of the deal when you’re going to the basket or when you’re pulling up or any of those things it’s not it’s this

Is definitely distinctly different from the rip through fouls that we were get seeing you know uh you know uh Kevin Durant was doing rip throughs off of Triple Threat this is like mostly off the dribble stuff that he’s doing floaters pull-ups stop reaching in and and by the way they’re like it’s

Marginal so then the goal post continually moved during this conversation as we’re trying to help people understand and then it’s like marginal contact I’m like it’s not marginal contact when he’s whacked on the shooting arm you know on the way up into the shot it’s insane I it’s it’s

Really weird I don’t understand I I but here here’s what I understand nobody likes to have the game slowed down for free throws right and and you know Yannis does this and but the hnis is probably the worst example is because he’s the one who takes so long on the

Free throws at least like NBA gets up there dribbl shoots the freee throw right and we can move on Giannis is taking 12 seconds on each free throw he’s getting two of those you know and then in between by way it’s not 12 seconds it’s probably closer to 18 to 20

Because they before they give him the ball he’s standing there so that is really you know you know by the way this is how it’s funny you know I watch games and I on the DVR and I I jump 30 seconds ahead you know when for the free throws

You know it’s a superstar when you got to press that jump ahead 30 seconds twice on free throws the other regular guys in the league you just got to press it once and the two free throws are done but whenever it’s a big star you got

They take at least twice as long on their free throws it’s interesting so they’re all doing it to some degree but Giannis has pushed it to the to ridiculous levels so I understand the frustration of it but I also have no answer for you if you’re G to try and

Say that has to be legislated out of the game because it’s the game the game is the game I guess Stars feel like it’s their world and everybody else is just living in it while they line all right so I guess nobody I guess I don’t know

If we’re gonna get a Super Chat here before we go which is interesting but I’ll throw out the here’s an interesting question about that reminds me that we see in the comments about uh players that play multiple years in college versus one and duns and how well they

Can help a team and um you know we’ve seen you know one and duns do well right away um but I’ll look at it like Trace Jackson you know on the Warriors you so you know that game at the end oh we God we have one more minute I guess so I can

Keep going when you go but if you have to jump off just let me know uh Trace Jackson you know this young guy who comes in you know fresh from the from college and it’s suddenly helping them you know looking really polished he played four years in Indiana there’s a

Big difference especially if as a big guy like that so uh there’s no question that you know look at Klay Thompson played three years uh so Steph Curry played Four like those guys come in and they’re awesome right away or or really much more polished so there is a

Definite uh uh correlation between multiple years in college and and being able to come in and then by the way you come into a bad situation as a one andone and you don’t get the kind of development you after a year or two and then you might be out of the league it

Might be done and then it wouldn’t have happen that way had you stayed and developed in college but that’s said the worst part about the college game is their development they don’t develop well uh most of the programs um a few exceptions and so that’s the other

Argument is should they even you know do is staying in college the solution I you know I don’t know it’s a interesting question uh if you’re an NBA guy it often hurts your chances if you stay too long so you that too and it shouldn’t but it does that’s the other sad thing

It should not hurt your chances because some of those guys for a lot of reasons stay and if you if a guy can help then you should draft him then you shouldn’t think to yourself oh he’s too old he played three years there’s something wrong with him you know but here’s the

Thing rich rich xwolf just gave us a a Super Chat thank you Rich uh can the dubs turn to the round like the 22 Celtics um you know that’s an interesting correlation and parallel but the interesting thing about the Celtics in that year was they they their offense completely changed overnight somehow eay

Got them skipping the ball and and and passing more and stopping the the that’s not the issue with the War offense certainly um without Draymond maybe they’ve unlocked some things that are better I don’t know that’s interesting um what do you think you think that the Warriors can turn around and get into

The playoffs yeah I mean like you know how Sports media is they thought the L they thought the Clippers were a disaster about uh three weeks ago and now they won nine in a row like things could change things could change in a New York minute and by the way that

Whole thing about that was Russ going to the bench and kudos to him for like you know at least coming out publicly and saying it was his idea I don’t I don’t know it was but I’m assuming it was um but it wasn’t just the fact that he’s

Coming off the bench he’s playing 20 minutes a game and that’s really the key is when you cut that cut his minutes from like the 28 to 20 you get the best version of Russ and then they completely unlocked it yeah I mean and harded was

Just a better fit as like a point guard and then Russ could be energy like James is not as much energy as Russ And Russ is not as much of a point guard as James is so yeah right right exactly and so you know we hijacked the question but um

Yeah there’s positions to be and then one game below 500 at this early stage in the season and then being able to figure it out so absolutely they can go on a run there’s always stretches with the look at their schedule a little bit to see they might have six games in a

Row against really you know the bad teams right and they go on a six or they win eight of 10 you know what I mean all a sudden everyone’s bunched up in that area anyway so yeah they’re there Steph is Steph um you know if they have to

Rely on him to make a shot like he did the last that last game I don’t know how well he’s GNA hold up but man it’s exciting to see him do it um all right we have got one more thank you Rich and we have Allen friend of the breakdown

Allen thank you so much should Golden State Warriors consider trading Draymond uh I mean they I probably there have been moments over the last couple years I’m like it’s probably just time uh to do that but I don’t think he’s got a huge value is the problem so if they can

Package it where there’s a first round pick there as well then that’s probably what they have to do I’m kind of talking out on my rear end right now but um you know what I mean I don’t think Draymond alone has a lot of value do you no I

Mean especially in the situation he’s currently in and then also he has more value to the Warriors than any other player because of the warrior style of play I don’t know if he fits in every system like he fits in with the warriors with Klay Thompson and Steph

Curry I mean it’s hard to say he doesn’t because he’s so amazing with Steph and how he sets him up offensively and even though yeah if he has like a Dame Lillard or Jamal Murray sure but going somewhere else yeah yeah yeah oh yeah U right and don’t forget he was shooting

Like 45% from three this year I’m like you know three or four attempts a game so suddenly I mean by the way those were lick the lick your thumb check the wi before you shoot it wide open because they don’t he doesn’t have any gravity but he was making them and he’ll

Continue to he’ll continue to have no gravity so that’s right so that’s the other problem he does he continues to have that and so uh by the way Trace Jackson doesn’t really have it but playing the center position which is the other issue that Warriors G have to have

I think Steve Cur is gonna have to have that long talk uh a a long walk down the pier with uh Looney to put his arm around him and say listen Looney um we’re going to have to uh you know move on and I think you know of all the

Players in the NBA Looney will be will definitely understand and and and probably you know he’ll take his first big eye Off the Bench roll fine he’s done it before um but I think that that it’s what’s exciting is that if Jackson is the thing and by the way Dale Davis’s

Father son is is Jackson Davis did you know that I did not um you know it’s funny because Dale Davis was a mean man and uh the Davis brothers yep yeah and and this Davis his son doesn’t seem very doesn’t seem mean he seems way too nice

But you know what equally effective on the down there blocking shots grabbing rebounds putting some putbacks in so they they found something there I think got to prove it for another few games but um yeah the Warriors certainly could uh could get a back a run and they should definitely consider trading

Draymond I just don’t think um you know that I don’t think there would be a really great deal unless it was like you know yeah it would it would be I don’t know I don’t know who’ want him back that’s the problem all right all right

You have to go yeah so let’s uh yeah all right well I think I’m gonna get out here too it’s there’s a beach to go to when relax and everybody should be having some good times around the holidays I hope you have some some Pleasant holidays I know I got to hop on

A plane and go to buar in a few days uh which will be interesting but um stay tuned for that kind of content we’ll be getting some as much as I can down there to figure out how argentinians train basketball but combo is this our last

  1. DET fan here. There’s a weird power dynamic, I mean Monty makes significantly more than the GM. He makes more than everyone on the team beside Harris & Bojan. Monty is absolutely by all accounts an extremely nice guy, respectable guy, etc. I think ppl are kinda fooled by that? He DID NOT want to coach this year. He wanted to take 1-2y off, collect his $6M/yr, (owed 6m/yr for 2y) and reset/relax.

His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer during last year’s playoffs. That’s another massive reason he didn’t want to coach. It wasn’t even him not wanting to go to DET, he even said if the job was available in a year or two he’d take it IIRC. But why would you want to coach after that super intense run in PHX that came to a wild ending, his wife getting cancer, him getting fired, etc. On top of that he’s made a ton of $, he had the salary for 2 more years. He played in the NBA from ‘94 to ‘03. He’s been coaching since ‘05. There’s maybe been a couple year break in that time. Then you consider college ball, prior stuff, he’s been around bball his ENTIRE life.

But how do you turn that offer down? He made 8M in his NBA career, he was a HC for NOP from 2010-2015, HC PHX ‘19-‘23, the rest were asst gigs. So I’m sure he’s made good money…but he got offered FU money. He takes this job and he’s set for life, 6y/$78.5M guaranteed. He recently turned 52, so if he makes it through the entire deal (highly doubt it) he’s gonna still be at the very oldest like 57…probably more like 55-56 bc it’s likely he will get fired with a year or two left tbh. This organization is a mess so I doubt a coach lasts 6y, especially one that doesn’t seem to want to be there. So he will still be young, he got married in ‘17 (his first wife tragically passed) and he will be able to just be done, retire, be rich AF, etc.

The problem is at the top. Tom Gores is a horrible owner, he truly is. I’ve heard from people inside the NBA that he is (cpl ex FO people, one current agent) someone that cares infinitely more about $ than winning, and it’s just secondary to him by a longshot.

The FO is full of nepotism (Arn Telker’s kid has a high position, I believe Weaver’s kid has a FO position) and idk what the power structure even is. Tom Gores hired Monty even with Weaver & Tellem having other HCs at the top of their list. That was not their hire. Not Weaver’s hire, neither was Casey. It’s truly sad, bc there’s so much talent on this team being wasted. Weaver is a solid identifier of talent, but that’s it. He doesn’t seem to know how to do much else, including make talent fit. He just can identify good bball players.

It won’t get truly better until Tom Gores sells the team to someone who wants to win, will clean out the coaching staff and FO, hire smart people, and let them do their job. Tom Gores literally profits off of absurdly high priced prison phone calls man, he cares about $. Morals, basketball, anything else is secondary.

And that prison phone call thing isn’t some rumor. It’s been written and talked about in local media…I think it reached national media for a tiny portion of time.

Peace guys. Love it as always. Just a down bad DET fan 😂
