I truly wish that dj Murray was the problem with this team, and that this sub reddit could be proven right simply by trading him for someone else and then BAM, championship. But this team’s problem is not dj Murray. Or injuries, or Trae caring about stats or Clint Capella fumbling rebounds or Quin doing one thing or another. The hawks are a team of good players who cannot work with each other. When they do, it’s beautiful.
Jalen looked amazing tonight but how many of his shots were set up for him by inside passes from Trae? Same with our centers, the whole front court gets points because Trae finds the right moment to hit them with the pass and when they sink it, it looks like the most natural thing in the world. When the hawks set each other up, the team does well.
When you have 4 wing men and a center, 4 guys at the 3 point line all hoping theyre the one who gets the open look, you just get a lot of hasty shots that miss.
I don’t have the solution, but I think that’s the problem. We’re a group of decent players (some spectacular, I mean we have an all star and quite possibly a 6moty), but we do not have a good TEAM. Even when Trae passes lately, half the time it seems like the player he’s passing to was not expecting it, so the pass misses or they fumble it. We could excel with Trae as a playmaker, tossing no-looks to dudes under the basket all day, but those dudes have to be ready, and they just don’t know when it’s coming.
