“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander making case for MVP” – ESPN SHOCKED Thunder snap Nuggets’ 6-game win streak

Know uh and are trying to uh prevent that from happening and they just do that and his ability kind of drive a Defender down and then kind of Fade Away jump shot not from fade away from 20 uh fade away from like 10 so it’s I mean just the shooting percentages are so

High uh because he gets to his spots and they’re all right around the rim as a team the Denver Nuggets held Oklahoma City to just 12 of 35 from the three-point line but Chad holgren Chris Dempsey is the Rookie of the Year so far he is a feature of downtown breakdown

Presented by star lemon lime soda the official soft drink of the Denver Nuggets because hom grin four of four from the three-point line how expansive is his game H you know in first the first play of the game he shoots a three nothing but net well

He I like him because as big men go in this league if you can block shots and intimidate in the middle and make threes oh you’ve got a special player and he does that he does both of those things and you know Chad he stays healthy I

Agree with you demp he’s by far the Rookie of the Year because look at OKC’s record and it says it all yeah and he’s basically the most different player from on their team from last year to this uh so look he’s having a great season um

This is what he put on the court at Gonzaga honestly um he’s looking better in the NBA than he did at Gonzaga and um look he’s got the full skill set I think he learned a lot from the first game uh from the last time against his team even

Though he had nine blocks offensively kind of got roughed up a little bit um wasn’t himself he looked like he wanted to come out with a great deal of confidence really wanted to attack and he did right off the top first 10 points of the game for ok Oklahoma City came

From him um and it gives you a little window as to what his future might be all right we’ve started breaking down this Denver Nuggets loss we’ve gotten the thoughts of these guys we’re going to to keep Shay in check when you turn it over 17 times well yeah I mean that’s

What they do I mean they lead the league and points off turnovers as we talked about uh pregame and you know to have 25 points off our mistakes um makes it that much harder uh to guard them and to guard him they had 25 in transition um but you know we we

Just didn’t have the the proper energy um starters uh tonight you know and obviously as you mentioned the turnovers no one’s trying to turn it over but you know Nicole had seven and the game was really decided in that third quarter 34 to 20 and I think that quarter six

Turnovers for 12 points in that quarter alone so um give them credit they’re a good team obviously they come in here beating us twice won a really close game and this one was uh an ass whooping was there anything in particular that they were doing on those turnovers was it

Unforced was it something schematic that’s what they do I mean once again I can’t say it many times they lead the league in point scored off turnovers after 30 some odd game so obviously you got to be clean with the ball you can’t play in a crowd crowd um you know that’s

Something they do to most teams but um you’re not going to give yourself a chance to win when you allow them to play to their strength to your point Ryan so uh we have them one more time obviously in OKC really weird beat him the first time in OKC by by 30 points

They beat us here in a really close game and then tonight was their blowout and the truth is somewhere in between I guess but uh we just didn’t have it tonight you know and um you that’s that’s going to happen at times I guess their uh their three-point

Shooting went way up in the second half after you guys held them I think full for 17 in the first half was that sort of just an offset of some of the transition stuff some of those open looks yeah I’m sure it was a combination of you know getting threes in transition

Um getting threes in the half court obviously chat was four or four I believe and he was very hot to start the game um but then just you know when you you got to be able to fly around give multiple effort I just didn’t think you

Know we were N9 to1 going into tonight’s game and we had the number three defense and that that team that we you know we went out there and show tonight that wasn’t a team that’s played the last 10 games and again whether it’s fatigue I’m

Not sure but you know it makes it really hard to play against a team that is very talented if you’re not given just great great effort what’s the most important thing when talking to a guy like Jamal I know that L Dort has had success on him in

The last matchup as well just how impressive is L Dort as a Defender and is there something schematic there yeah he’s very good Defender strong physical um obviously the matches minutes to Jamal’s every time Jamal came back in the game they brought a Lou in the game

Um but I think we we have not done a good enough job to help Jamal you know yeah he can help himself but when you got a guy draped all over you we have to set better screens try to free him up and then the other thing too is you know

When they’re taking the ball when we’re taking the ball out of the net every time cuz we can’t get a stop they’re set they can get to their matchups they can get to the game plan and um you know the last six games we’d won six in a row

We’re aaging over 19 fast break points in a game in that six game span and tonight we only have 13 so um yes he’s a good Defender but we can do a lot better job of freeing Jamal up and getting him uh some some more quality looks but to

His credit 11 assists two turnovers uh and 35 minutes um you know he took care of the ball at a high level spot start tonight again for pton Watson this time I got to say very good team I’m just curious what you saw from him tonight

Yeah I mean it’s uh every night that he gets a chance to start and play minutes is a is a a learning and growing opportunity um you know 14 points one of six I think as I told him at halftime you know even after the game last night

Just um don’t don’t play with the settle mentality I mean like I think yeah you’re opening the corner but they’re shrinking so much they’re helping on the drive cut behind it like he’s so damn athletic he got one from Jamal in the first half behind the defense so yes you

Can make make threes we all know that but don’t just settle for that put pressure on the rim dunk the basketball get to the free throw line and obviously I think you know he can help us a lot more in the glass than he did tonight but I mean Payton is

Just a work in progress who’s just getting better and better and um you know it’s while Aaron is out for over long Aaron is out you know this is just a great opportunity for Payton what do you tell uh Reggie and what you want see from him when he goes into a shooting

Rut the last five or six games especially since yeah I mean it was good to see him make some Shots tonight made a couple threes um but get guys involved you know I mean like he’s attracting so much attention in the pick and roles whatever we’re doing offensively when

He’s out there with that second unit uh you got DJ on the rim you got Shooters behind him and you know try to run your team and and you know get Christian Brown off get Julian strawther off help get Justin or Payton DJ Zeke whoever else is out there like get them some

Easy ones you got DJ in the one Lop tonight um and continue to attack you know if you can get to the rim see get in an easy basket get to the free throw line you know maybe that helps your three-point shot fall but uh Reggie will

Be bounce back he’s been terrific for us this year and you’re right he’s going through a little bit of a slump but you know I I was surprised he actually played in the second half you know he was uh questionable to return and uh that speaks to Reggie’s

Toughness I want to go back to two of Coach Malone’s initial thoughts there one he did mention he didn’t feel like the Nuggets had the proper energy to start this game but then he also talked about how the game got away in the third quarter the Nuggets lost that quarter 34

To2 and these are two of the best third quarter teams in the NBA what specifically happened in that period well I’d go back to your first comment energy I I just thought they had the complete energy and one once things started going in Oklahoma City’s favor

You they just milked it and milked it and milked it and the Nuggets turned it over they they had poor three-point shots and didn’t make them so they I think they had a drought one point of four minutes where they didn’t score a field goal yeah the turnover was a

Killer just because obviously that robed you of a possession but then uh they were able to get run outs and feel their fast break points that was a big deal um in that third quarter um just overall though like the points in the paint the Nuggets had 48 of them that’s one of

Their lowest numbers of the year and did you miss Aaron Gordon in that respect yeah you probably did um and then his ability to help you continue to be more switchable um and and stout at the point of attack on the perimeter as well so um I think Aaron Gordon’s uh absence was

Felt kind of a lot in this game um but but again you know Oklahoma City was really really good at getting to their personality nuggets couldn’t prevent it meanwhile coming into this game Nicole yic I mean into this game I guess his first couple ma shots 16 consecutive

Made field goals that’s a career high for the Joker another efficient night for Nicole yic N9 and of 10 from the field how did the Joker do what he does you know we go back Katie we were talking about it so made his last shot against Golden State 11 out of 11 last

Night against U Memphis four four and then he had like a about a four or five fo or four he finally missed and then he he made some more he just been I me you think would you 20 of his last 21 shots he made I mean that’s just phenomenal I

Mean Joker was good they really limited his shots cuz they on the dribble they didn’t run doubles at him right away they tried to clog soon as he put it out they ran at him and tried to rotate quickly out they did a good job with it

Yeah they just stood a bunch of players around him I mean was he seven of eight at halftime which would mean that he was two of two in the second half just two shots in the entire second half and and that’s what one of the things that’s

What Oklahoma City was doing and just limiting the shots especially in the paint now if Nia wanted to go and and shoot a bunch of three-pointer Shots tonight I think those would have been available but he doesn’t operate like that right and so if you’re going to be

Able to to neutralize M MCA even a little bit it’s going to be by sucking the shot attempts out and taking them out of the paint and then and OKC did and and the passes back out um instead of contested threes maybe pump fake Drive extra couple dribbles extra pass

Really you know disrupt that defense before you jack up a three I think that would have been better for the Nuggets yic was is one of the featur spee fore spee spee speee for spe our Slayer Lane Tower is under attack our Dragon Lane Tower is under attack
