[NBA_University] Julius Randle is attempting 3.37 (!) less 3s per 75 than last season. That is the 3rd largest decrease in 3PA frequency of any player in the NBA… Shift in shot diet towards bully-ball 2s and getting to the line which has resulted in 28.3 PPG on 63.2 TS% over his last 15 games.

Appreciate Julius Randle
Glad he is doing exactly what we wanted, less 3’s, more action in the paint where is he is nearly unstoppable.
That alone is helping him immensely, and All Star/All NBA should be on the menu yet again. Gotta appreciate that
Do we think Mitch being out has anything to do with this?

*fewer threes
He’s also driving way more. He’s had the 6th most in the NBA season with 14.3 per game (Brunson is 3rd). Last season he was at 9.3
There were a ton of times last game where I thought Randle was gonna settle for the lightly contested 3, but instead he drove and got the easy 2.
Brunson + DDV making this possible.
Randle was always bully ball from the time he got here, but the main upgrade he’s made is that he’s finally taking all the good qualities of his bully ball without the *jab jab spin jump and pass with 4 seconds left* shit that he was doing previously. He’s still getting enough shots up to make teams think twice, but cut out the fading into the corner from midrange like he’s Melo shots cause he realizes he’s too big and too strong for them to stop him.
He finally understands that he is damn near the biggest strongest dude in the NBA.
Don’t know why it took a decade…but here we are.
I had a friend recently tell me Randle is a fraud All NBA player who only made the 3rd team because he plays for the Knicks. Hope Randle makes the 2nd team i this year.
He’s attacking faster and with more purpose finally. There are times he still holds the ball longer than you’d like but his decision making in terms of when to attack is just the best we’ve ever seen it. With OG and potentially another shooter added to the team before the deadline, he can use the new spacing better too
This is the Julius I want to see.
Out of curiousity, do we have any evidence on what would happen if teams start sagging off of Randle and dare him to shoot the 3? I’m worried about what would happens in the playoffs if smart opposing coaches start adjusting to what Randle has been doing. This could be problematic in a 7 game series.
I feel like last season the idea was to free up the paint so RJ could have more opportunities to operate. This season they allowed Randle to do what he does and have realised (finally) that RJs production can be replicated and improved upon with an elite 3&d.
players like shaq and giannis prove that you dont have to make 3s to be a dominant player
