Wembanyama checking himself in – entire sequence

So, here’s the sequence discussed [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/NBASpurs/comments/18xg6ur/post_game_wemby_admits_he_went_in_for_that/), Wemby said

>In the fourth, I wasn’t allowed to sub in but I still did it, and the coach subbed me out after that.

Here’s a article by Tom Orsborn for the SA express news : [Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama eager to have minutes restriction lifted](https://www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs/article/wembanyama-eager-minutes-restriction-lifted-18586509.php)

>Popovich, who addressed the media before Wembanyama spoke to reporters, was asked if the Frenchman is getting close to having the restriction lifted.
>
>The coach said it would be lifted only after an examination.
>
>”In a certain amount of time, we will take more pictures and that will determine whether the minutes thing changes or not,” Popovich said. “It is the same (number of minutes) every night. I think we were a minute off tonight. Twenty-four minutes is the deal.”

All in all, kind of weird situation.

Thanks for posting this. Those of us who were in the game thread and watching were quite confused, but I see what happened now. I looked up and was like “Vic’s back in??? Wait, Pop must really think we can win!” Then, “Wait, he’s back out, but the game’s closer now … ???” Lol. I guess, you’ve got to test the boundaries sometimes.

it’ll be fun to see Wemby and Pop balance their personalities. Pop learns, grows and adapts his style to his players too, but it’s clear he’s given a lot of leash to these young players to prioritize development over winning.

Hard for Victor to see this minutes restriction giving him the energy to finish this season strong while working on his conditioning.

  3. Guy wants to win. I just don’t want his passion to be dampened by spurs coaching if it truly is harmless. But I don’t know anything.

I just hope we’re not pissing Wemby off. I think he understands the cautious approach, but asking him to sit in a game that we had a chance to win (small chance but that’s more than usual) with 2 minutes left in a season like this may sour him on the the Spurs approach. If 2 extra minutes in crunch time is too much for him to handle, we’ve got bigger issues.

Yeah he needs to be 30 mins mim, 32+ if possible

Kid wants to play and continue to compete. His ultimate goal should be to average 35-37 minutes a game.

I get the coaching staff wants to avoid redlining above all else but that only happens by incrementally pushing the boundary bit by bit
